OPERATION THUNDERJOYTBird Image with Heart
Operation Thunderjoy was a HUGE success! Thanks to generous donations by nearly 100 community members in and outside our school we were able to exceed our goal of $15,000.

A very special Thunderjoy thanks to our PTA. Without the use of their donation collection system, we would not have been able to raise what we did.

Happy holidays to all!

TIME TO SAY “GOOD-BYE”
December 18th
Ms. Eli is retiring on December 18 after 18 YEARS at THES. She has seen more kids pass through those doors than anyone else. Ms. Eli always has a smile on her face and worked very hard, with long hours, to keep our campus clean, safe, and beautiful. She has always been willing to help our teachers in whatever way she could, and has trusted us with bringing her grandchildren here to THES. She’s been such an important part of the THES family for so long!

She will be sorely missed by the staff and the kids. We hate that we cannot throw her the party she deserves during these times.  Instead, the faculty and PTA have collected donations to give her a gift card so that her family can party!

WINTER BREAK
December 19 – January 5
There is no school December 19th – January 5th.  We will see you back on Wednesday, January 6th!

MEALS FOR WINTER BREAK
Monday, Dec. 21st
Wednesday, Dec. 30th
AISD will partner with the Central Texas Food Bank to provide access to healthy food while campuses are closed for the winter break.  AISD curbside meal sites will serve free seven-day meal packs prior to the break on Thursday, Dec. 17.  Families may pick up an additional seven-days worth of meals at the Food Bank’s mass distribution events:

Dates: Monday, Dec. 21 and Wednesday, Dec. 30
Location: Field, 7105 Berkman Drive, Austin, TX 78752
Time: 9 a.m. – Noon

In addition to the seven-day meal packs, the Central Texas Food Bank will provide attendees with an assortment of food items. Seven-day meal packs are free for any child younger than 19 as well as those older than 19 who utilize special education resources or who are enrolled in school to complete the requirements for a high school diploma.

Parents or caregivers may receive seven-day meal packs without children present by providing documentation — such as a birth certificate, student ID card, report card, or attendance record — at the point of meal service.

Meals feature foods that are cooked and prepared by staff in AISD kitchens. The healthy meals include protein, grains, fruits, vegetables and milk. Seven-day meal pack components will be chilled and served cold to be taken home and reheated.

AISD will resume weekly seven-day meal pack distribution at curbside meal sites on Thursday, Jan. 7th. Meals are available until all packages are distributed.

PROSPECTIVE PARENTS
If you have a friend or neighbor who is interested in THES for their child, they can find out more about our school on this video, which includes important enrollment information for the coming year.  Many thanks to Mr. Hawes, our amazing technology teacher for putting this video together for us.  It’s fun to see some faces of favorite Thunderbirds who have moved on to other schools!

COATS FOR KIDS
Thursday Dec 17, 8am-10am
>Coats for Kids are sponsored by Junior League of Austin. Our school is only the distribution point for THES families. All the coats were delivered to the school listed and labeled with the students names and cannot be exchanged or returned. Stop by the school during the designated times to pick up your child’s coat. Contact Ms. Jasim with questions questions: sura.jasim@austinisd.org

SHOW YOUR THUNDERBIRD PRIDE
2020-2021 T-Shirts are here!
Your Travis Heights Elementary PTA is very proud to announce that we are going to be providing a FREE t-shirt for every student at the school this year.  We will be distributing shirts Saturday 12/19 from 11am to 2pm in front of the school.  We are still working on the details of the process, but everyone will remain in their vehicle for this process.  Distribution will take place directly in front of the school at 2010 Alameda Dr. 78704.

In addition to the FREE shirt for every student (and staff member), we have a limited number of adult sized shirts (Unisex and Ladies cut) for sale to parents.  We also still have some stock of the very popular Thunderbird shirt (and hat and water bottle) from last fall.  These items will need to be purchased IN ADVANCE from the THES Square Store.  https://travis-heights-elementary.square.site/

Quantities for these items are limited and will be on a first come, first serve basis.  Also, please understand that there will be no try on or returns available.  If in doubt, go for a larger size. While shopping, please consider a donation to your THES PTA to help cover the cost of the shirts we are providing to all our Thunderbirds!
