Happy New Year and welcome back! We hope you enjoyed your winter break and that getting back into the groove hasn’t been TOO hard this week. It’s Wednesday and we are in full swing! There is so much to take note on, so please read on.

Dual Language Parent Meeting — tonight.

Wednesday, January 9, 6–7:30pm

Please join us in the cafeteria tonight for an informational session about the Dual Language Program at THES, and what to look for and expect when considering the Dual Language Program for Middle and High School.

Awards Assemblies — this week.

Thursday, January 10 & Friday, January 11

It’s time to praise your amazing children for all of the hard work they have been putting into their schoolwork this year. Please join us for awards assembly in the cafeteria during your child’s class time slot.

January 10:

• 2nd Grade @ 8:10am
• 1st Grade @ 9am
• Kinder @ 9:50am

January 11:

• 4th Grade @ 8:30am
• 5th Grade @ 9:15am
• 3rd Grade @ 10am

Assembly Switch — this Friday.

Friday, January 11

Please note 2nd grade will join the Upper-Grade Assembly this week. PK will join Lower-Grade Assembly starting Friday, January 18. Parents are welcome to join! Assemblies begin at 7:40 and end at 7:55.

Don’t forget to show your Thunderbird pride by wearing your THES t-shirt! Need another one? Shirts will be sold before the assembly on Friday, January 18. Only kids sizes are still available and are on sale, two for $5!

It’s time to register for the 2019/2020 school year!

All returning students must register online for the upcoming school year. A Parent Cloud account must be created before you can access the online registration system. For parents creating new accounts, please use an email address you will have access to for several years (i.e. no work emails). If you already have an account but do not remember your username or password, you can request it to be sent to you. If your child is not registered online, they will not be placed in a classroom for the 2019/2020 school year.

Dual Language Applications are due.

Applications to the Dual Language Program are now available at the THES office or on the main AISD website. Neighborhood and transferring students wanting to apply to the THES Dual Language Program must submit a completed application packet and all required documents back to THES no later than the end of business on January 31, 2019. Packets submitted after this date may not be considered. Students who are already in the DL program do not need to reapply—parents just need to register for the next year.

Read to Succeed

Read to Succeed reading logs will go home this week in this week’s Wednesday folders!

We hope you’ll practice being responsible by reading for at least six hours to earn a free ticket to Six Flags this summer! Duplicate copies will not be provided by the school, but you can download an extra copy, and find out more program details here.

Register for Free Adult English Classes at THES

Learn English at Travis Heights Elementary with free classes. Improve your English for work or everyday communication and change your life!

• Register on Wednesday, January 16 from 8–10am at THES—just bring your ID!
• Classes start Wednesday, January 23 at 8am
• Classes are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8–10am

Prospective Parent Tour

Friday, January 18

Prospective parents are welcome to join us for assembly at 7:40 am in the gym and on to the tour at 8 am. Please be a THES advocate and help spread the word about how wonderful the Thunderbird Community is by telling your friends, neighbors, and co-workers about our Prospective Parent Tours. There will be one last tour on January 29 at 8 am. Recruitment is key for keeping our school at capacity and thriving!
