Happy November First!


Hope you all enjoyed your Halloween last night and didn’t get too soaked trick-or-treating in the rain.

It’s a big folder today and while we are highlighting a lot, be sure to check out the pdf at the bottom of to post to see the Principal’s Newsletter, a Computer Lab update, flyers on the 2nd/3rd grade performance, Family Fun & Fitness, the annual Thanksgiving Lunch and much more!!

5th grade leaves for Camp Champions

You may have noticed all the bags in the foyer this morning. Today our intrepid 5th Graders head off for 3 days and two nights on a educational team building adventure. This is an annual trip that all the 5th grade classes get to take. They have a blast learning in nature and come back with so many stories. I can’t wait to hear about this year’s adventure.

No school on FRIDAY! (Nov. 3rd)

And because there’s no school on Friday, we’ll have our monthly Upper Grade Assembly (3rd-5th) on Thursday (Nov. 2nd) instead.

Picture Retakes are Tuesday, Nov. 7th!

If you want your child’s picture redone, you MUST return the original package in its entirety on Tuesday. Those students who were absent on the original picture day will have their photos taken regardless. See the flyer in last week’s folder for more details.

If you have any friends or neighbors who are interested in learning more about Travis Heights Elementary, please be sure to invite them to a Prospective Family Tour. The first is Friday, November 10th at 8am. Additional tour dates are listed on our calendar, and the attached flyer.

Cultural Festival and Tamalada are just around the corner!

Plans are underway for Tamalada (Wednesday, Dec. 6th) and Cultural Festival (Saturday, Dec. 9th). These fun annual traditions celebrate the diversity in our school with tamale making, performances, cultural tables, and a Mercado with items for sale.

We really need a few extra volunteers to help with planning this year’s events. If you have questions or can help, please contact: Jennifer Barrera (jenthespy91 @ yahoo .com) or Colin Clark (sprinklerintherain @ gmail .com). Flyers with additional details about these events will be out soon.

Upper Grade Family Fun & Fitness Day (3-5th)

Family Fun & Fitness is coming, November 17th! We invite you to join us for a morning of fun physical activities and healthy eating.

Volunteers are needed! If you are able to help please sign up online: Volunteer Opportunities

We are also asking families to donate healthy foods for our Snack Station.

5th Grade: Small Oranges

It’s Square 1 Art Time!

Order forms are in your folder. The deadline for ordering with free shipping is next Friday, November 10th, so be sure to get those in right away! They make great holiday gifts and the proceeds support the school.

Thanksgiving Lunch

    Description:

    Please attend this special training at our school on Monday, April 29th, from 4-5:30PM with Isabel Guerrero of Austin Interfaith. Please RSVP to Colin Clark at sprinklerintherain@gmail.com or Isabel at isabelcg.iaf@gmail.com.

    Isabel will train us in the tried-and-true organizing principles and practices that our school community has used in years past to win our in-district charter and help families facing displacement.

    We will learn how to host "House Meetings," where we identify issues of concern and identify new leaders for our school, as well as how to organize campaigns to win on our issues.

    As our school population changes, and as families face a variety of challenges, including housing insecurity, language barriers, and deportation threats, this training is foundational to organizing ourselves for the best outcomes for our children, students, faculty and staff.
