Week one down!

It has been awesome seeing the halls filled with happy student faces and eager energy.  We hope everyone has had an easy transition back to school. Don’t forget that next week is a short week —NO SCHOOL MONDAY— in honor of Labor Day!

First Assemblies Of The Year

September 6th & September 13th, THES Gym

Assemblies are a fun way for our students to celebrate Thunderbird pride. Upper grades (3rd-5th) are typically on the first Friday of the month and Lower Grades (K-2nd) on the second Friday of the month. However, we will have a few changes throughout the year to accommodate other THES calendar events. In the spring semester, 2nd grade moves up to upper-grade assemblies and PK joins lower grade assemblies. Meet in the gym at 7:35. Parents are welcome to join!

• Friday, September 6: 3rd–5th graders
• Friday, September 13: K–2nd graders

Don’t forget to show your school pride by wearing your Thunderbird t-shirt! You can purchase one before assembly from 7:15-7:30.

Shirts are available in youth XS-XL and unisex S-XL. Students $5, Adults $10

* Tote bags and yard signs will also be available.

Join Us For Back To School Night

Thursday, September 12, 4:30–7:05pm

Back to School Night is an opportunity for parents to learn about their child’s classroom and expectations for the year! We will kick off the evening with a pizza party in the cafeteria at 4:30. Please bring a salad, side dish, or treat to share with your fellow Thunderbirds! We also need volunteers to help serve food and clean up. If you are interested in helping, please email volunteers@travisheightselementary.com

At 5:30 meet the administration, teachers, and PTA board in the gym. Then head to your child’s classroom to hear a presentation about their teacher’s classroom curriculum, field trips, homework, behavior expectations, and more. There will be two classroom presentations during the evening so that parents with multiple children can visit both classrooms. You are also encouraged to visit our special areas: art, music, P.E., computer lab, and the library! Childcare will be provided for school-aged children. Younger siblings may accompany parents as needed.

• 4:30-5:00 – Pre-K classroom visits
• 4:30-5:00 – pizza party in the cafeteria
• 5:00-5:30 – optional Special Areas (P.E., Art, Music) visits
• 5:30-6:00 – gym meeting
• 6:00-6:30 – Classroom session  #1
• 6:35-7:05 – Classroom session #2

Also, don’t forget to pick up your THUNDERBIRD GEAR! The merchandise table will be set up at the school’s main entrance.

Calling All Thunderbird Volunteers

All volunteers (including field trip chaperones) must submit a background check through Austin Partners in Education each year. Please see the volunteer page of our website for more details on completing background checks. Volunteers must also complete an AISD Confidentiality Agreement (available in the office). Please fill out this volunteer interest form online so we know what you would like to help with.

New volunteers are encouraged to join us for a Volunteer Orientation:

• Thursday, September 5th, 8-9am
• Tuesday, September 10th, 8-9am
• Tuesday, September 24th, 8-9am

Helpful Hints

Parent + student lunches start on September 11th. Parents may eat with their child on Wednesdays and Fridays. Visitors must sign in and out at the office. If you are in the building without a visitor badge, you will be sent to the office. An ID is required to get a visitor badge. We appreciate your help in keeping our school a safe place to learn!

The THES calendar is different than the AISD calendar, so please be sure to check our calendar (and subscribe) online to be in the know about special teacher planning days (days off for the students).
