HAPPY THURSDAY, THUNDERBIRDS! 04/28/2022

Have an announcement or other great news to share? Please submit your info to the school the week prior to when you’d like to see it in this newsletter.

PTA News!

General PTA Meeting TONIGHT! 4/28, 5:30-6:30pm in the gym. Performance by Kinder and 1st Grade! We will also be electing a new PTA Board for the 22-23 School Year. While we do have a few candidates already volunteered, all positions are open for consideration. This includes President, 1st and 2nd Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. If you are interested, please contact Samantha Barrett, our Vice Principal and head of the Nomination Committee: samantha.barrett@austinisd.org.

Teacher Appreciation week is next week and nearly all of our Volunteer slots are full. We do still need a couple of folks, so CLICK HERE to see if you can help out.

But people isn’t all we need! PTA will be providing most of the food and goodies, but we do need a few things. Tuesday is “We DONUT know what we would do without you” day. We have secured a donation for some donuts, but we could use some more “regular” donuts and other pastries. Please drop off at the school by Monday afternoon (May 2nd). Wednesday is “Just POPPING to thank the SWEETEST teachers!” day. We will be setting up a popcorn/candy “bar” so that the teachers can make a basket of their favorite sweets and treats. We need bags of popcorn (Pirate’s Booty, Kettle Corn, etc…) and bags of loose candy. Think Skittles, M&Ms, etc… Something we can put in bowls and teachers can load into their baskets. Please drop these off by pickup Tuesday (May 3rd). If you can’t make it to volunteer or to grab some goodies, please simply consider a donation to the PTA, who will be buying breakfast, lunch, coffee, and other treats for our teachers next week. You can make a donation HERE.

Save the Dates! Spring Fling will be May 20th and Guero’s Night will be May 24th. For more info or to get involved, email ptapresident@travisheightselementary.com.

5th Grade Commencement

Attention 5th grade families!
Believe it or not, it’s almost time for our kids to finish their time at THES and move on to middle school.

SAVE THE DATE for a fun ceremony to celebrate our graduates: Friday, May 27, 2022 (the last day of school). There will be a ceremony in the gym with certificates and a slide show, starting at 12:30 pm.  Parents are encouraged to attend, followed by a reception outside.

We would love for you all to attend, and look for more details soon!

We need VOLUNTEERS to help come up with ideas, decorate, set up and clean up. If you can volunteer or want to donate or have questions, please contact 5th grade parent Melissa Livingston at melissalokelani@yahoo.com or text 512-773-5657‬.

FFF Day 2022

We want to send SO many thanks to everyone who volunteered and donated. With your help, fun was had by all!

Poem-In-Your-Pocket Day

To wrap up poetry month, THES will be celebrating Poem-in-your-Pocket day on Friday, April 29! Librarian Mrs. Harris has prepared pockets for K-2nd students and free poems to go inside. Any Thunderbird that reads their poem (self-published or borrowed) to five different friends on Friday will receive a sweet treat at the end of the day!

PBL Showcase

If you were unable to attend our showcase, you can see some of the products our students created here:

Lunch Time with your Thunderbird is back!

Parents you are welcomed to have lunch with your Thunderbird starting next week on Wednesday, April 13th! Please make sure to check in at the front office. If this is your first time checking-in, you must bring a valid picture id.

Lunch times are scheduled by classroom. Please check with your teacher for the exact time. Parents may come and eat lunch with their child only (they may not bring other students) on Wednesdays and Fridays only starting April 13th.

There will be designated tables where parents can sit with their child to have lunch. Please remember lunch is only 30 min., and students need to return back to their class lunch tables when it is time to return back to the classroom.

Please remember you are a guest at your child’s school. Appropriate behavior is expected at all times. We respectfully ask that you do not visit with other children that are not yours, share food with other children, or take pictures of other children. The safety and welfare of all our Thunderbirds is our number one priority. In addition, we ask that you respect our teacher’s lunch time and reach them during their planning time if you need to speak with them.
If you have any questions please reach out to the Travis Heights Administration Team.

Access To Healthy Food

With many AISD students living in food-insecure households, access to healthy food may be challenging when the district is closed. Families can use the community resources below to find free meals in their area:

We Love Our Volunteers!

Interested in volunteering to be a lunch monitor? Or would you rather help with making copies or decorating bulletin boards? If you want to help, we have plenty that needs to be done!

Our new volunteer coordinators Anna Roth, anna.m.roth@gmail.com, and Sura Jasim (Parent Support Specialist), sura.jasim@austinisd.org, will be in touch with you.
