Greetings Thunderbirds! E-Folder 1/13/21

HAPPY WEDNESDAY THUNDERBIRDS!
January 13, 2021

What was that White Stuff?
Can you believe we had snow on Monday and two days later it’s beautiful, clear and in the mid 60’?  That’s Austin for you.  Hope some of you got a chance to take a break, go outside with the kids, and celebrate the special event that only comes to Austin every ten years or so!  Even little things can build amazing, happy memories in a child that they will carry through challenges they face as they mature.  Take time to make some special memories in any way you can.  (And don’t feel guilty if it wasn’t the snow.  You’ve got your own special way of sharing joy with your child.  Trust your instincts!)

It’s BAAACK!
Remember the Cultural Festival that we have every year?  You might have thought it wasn’t happening because things have changed so much this year, right?  Well, Thunderbirds are a proud bunch.  We don’t like to give up on our traditions that bring our community together and let our families shine.  We have so many wonderful cultures in our community!  Be thinking about what you might want to share with the world about your culture…we are looking for some students or families who would like to make a short video.  More details to come in next week’s E-folder!

We’re Trying to Keep Everyone Safe!
As COVID-19 hospitalizations increase and tighter restrictions throughout the region have become necessary, Austin ISD will encourage parents to have their students attend school through remote off-campus instruction for the remainder of this week. This decision was made in partnership with Austin Public Health and city and county officials to help decrease the spread of COVID-19 in our communities, as well as to reduce the risk to our hospitals.

We are asking all families to keep their children in a remote-learning setting beginning on Tuesday, Jan. 12 and for the remainder of the week. Please remember that our schools will remain open to families who need access to our in-person services, such as special needs, etc. Each principal will work with their school community to determine staffing needs and levels as long as Travis County remains in Stage 5.

The Center for Disease control provides guidance for best practices to avoid infection and available resources.  https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/your-health/need-to-know.html

Browser History Reminders
Please note and remind your children their browser history can’t be cleared. Remind students that their browser history on an Austin ISD device cannot be cleared. Anyone who opens history on their device will be able to see students’ search history, along with dates and times.
