A Message to all Thunderbirds!
Hello, Thunderbirds! We truly hope that this message finds you all safe and in good health. To say this Summer was unprecedented would be an understatement. Changes seem to be coming nearly every day and uncertainty is all around us.
Originally, this was to be the first Wednesday e-folder of the 20-21 school year, with info about Back to School Night, Meet the Teacher, and other traditional THES events, but, obviously this year is different. However, there are a few things we do want you to know:
1- There is not a lot of information for us to share. We are relying on the District and our Superintendent to get the word out for what parents need to know. We know there are lots of questions and we promise that we will be sharing everything as quickly as we can. It is well understood how hard it is to plan without information. Please understand that we are not withholding anything.
2- We do have plans for modified versions of many of our Back-to-School favorites. We can’t all get together in the gym or cafeteria for hugs and tag and fun and games, but Thunderbirds are strong and we WILL stay a community. Thunderbirds united, faithful, strong, and true. We are holding off on announcing dates and details, due to the next item.
3- The AISD Board of Trustees will be meeting on Thursday, August 6th to discuss and vote on postponing the start of school (more info here: https://www.kut.org/post/austin-isd-board-vote-pushing-back-school-start-apply-extend-remote-learning). If you would like your opinion heard you can reach out to the AISD Board of Trustees and let them know what you think. Their info can be found at: https://www.austinisd.org/board/members
Our rep is Geronimo M. Rodriguez Jr. (apparently, he prefers texts to email). You can text him at 512-426-6483. You can also reach out to Cindy Anderson and Arati Singh, as they are At Large board members.
Once this vote is cast, and we know more, we will announce some dates and details for upcoming activities. Look for the August 12th Wednesday Folder. Please, stay safe and take care of yourself and your loved ones.
