REGISTER FOR THE 2020/21 SCHOOL YEAR!
All returning students must register online for the upcoming school year. A Parent Cloud account must be created before you can access the online registration system. For parents creating new accounts, please use an email address you will have access to for several years (i.e. no work emails). If you already have an account but do not remember your username or password, you can request it to be sent to you. If your child is not registered online, they will not be placed in a classroom for the 2020/2021 school year.

CELEBRATING THE 24TH YEAR OF YOUNG WRITERS WORKSHOP!

Students in every grade will enjoy a special morning focused on the many cool, creative ways writing is important in our lives, our work, and our world. Authors, musicians, poets, businesspeople and more volunteer their time to lead these workshops and give Thunderbirds a glimpse into careers and creative pursuits that involve writing. MONTHLY PARENT COFFEE CHAT

Join us this month for a helpful training on managing strong emotions in our children and implementing peace areas at home by our Travis Heights counselors. You’ll leave with some quick strategies to try at home, raffle items, and a make-and-take project for your child’s very own peace area. 

 

THUNDERBIRD THRIFT + BEAUTIFICATION DAY
Saturday, February 29
Save the date and save your stuff! The 2nd Annual Thunderbird Thrift will take place in the gym from 8am-noon. This fun event was created last year to present a great way for our community to shop second hand and also help raise money for our school. 

Please donate GENTLY USED CLOTHES, TOYS, BOOKS, HOUSEWARES, and ELECTRONICS. Ask your friends, neighbors & family if they have donations for the sale – the more inventory we have, the better the sale!

Donations can be dropped off on campus:

Shop the sale early, and stick around for BEAUTIFICATION DAY! Just 30 minutes of gardening and clean-up can make a huge difference in how our campus looks and feels for our children.  The whole family is welcome!

PTA MEETING + 4TH & 5TH GRADE PERFORMANCES
Thursday, February 20, 6pm
Join us in the gym for a PTA meeting at 6pm, and then stay to see what your child has been learning in music this year. Student drop-off in the cafeteria at 5:45pm. 

AUSTIN PARKS FOUNDATION, IT’S MY PARK DAY!
Saturday, March 7, 9AM-12PM
Volunteers are encouraged to meet at Blunn Creek for a neighborhood park cleanup. Austin Parks Foundation will lend waders, grabbers, trash bags, and will also dispose of trash. Click here for more info! Please spread the word and help keep the park behind our school beautiful! 

AISD NEW HEALTH CURRICULUM INFORMATION SESSION
Wednesday, March 11, 5-6pm
You are invited to attend a Parent Orientation night to preview health topics covered under the new Austin ISD Health curriculum. No child care will be available. Austin ISD believes that a valuable element of education is the development of respect for all individuals, regardless of race, color, creed, national origin, age, gender, sexual orientation, disability or other personal attributes. The district is committed to providing all students with a positive learning environment.

We encourage you to review the lesson overviews for each grade level by visiting https://www.austinisd.org/pe-health/health-education/hsr. This is an opportunity to have an advanced look at the important lessons your child will be offered in May. 

You will be provided an opportunity to opt-out of any or all of the lessons at this meeting. If you do not want your student to receive one or more of these lessons, you must actively opt-out by using the AISD opt-out letter. This letter is available online at the above link. It will be available in print at the meeting and will be sent home again on March 23rd. The deadline for returning opt-out letters is April 29.

2020 CENSUS FAMILY NIGHT
Wednesday, March 25th, 5-7pm
Our school will be hosting the 2020 Census Family Night on March 25, 2020 from 5-7pm. We will be sharing hosting duties with LINDER, DAWSON, TRAVIS HIGH & LIVELY MIDDLE Schools. We need neighborhood businesses and restaurants to have a booth and/or donate door prizes for the event. Please spread the word about CENSUS NIGHT and help me make the event memorable for ALL families. Please contact Ms. Perez at 512-841-0855 if you are able to donate or have a business in mind.
