December Principal’s News

Project Based Learning
Project Based Learning is a teaching method in which students learn by working for an extended period of time to research and respond to a real-world, engaging and complex question, problem, or challenge.

Students are given a chance to reflect, peer critique, and revise throughout the project to create critical thinking skills and develop superior products. Audiences are carefully selected for presentation so that students are delivering their hard work to those who would benefit from it most. We want our students to not only learn the standards, but to be able to apply their new knowledge in a meaningful way.

Thunderbird Showcase
Our annual Thunderbird Showcase will take place on Thursday, January 16th at 6:00 pm at Travis Heights Elementary.  This event allows our school to showcase our students Project Based Learning research and provide an in depth look into the process our students take with their projects. Please join us to learn and celebrate the work our Thunderbirds have completed this year.

Traffic Safety
Thank you to everyone for helping us maintain safety while simultaneously respecting our neighbors.   Our PK students are dismissed at 2:15. The signage outside our school states “No Parking” between the hours of 1pm and 3pm. Therefore, we are asking parents not to line up for PK pick up before 2:00.  In this manner, we can support a safe pick up while also respecting the traffic signs. Additionally, please be aware of parking and speed limit signs in the neighborhood. We appreciate your help in keeping our community safe!\

Blended Learning
Super-charge! Your child’s reading & math skills by putting home screen time to good use with our Blended Learning programs available through the AISD portal.

Cultural Festival
Plans are underway for Tamalada and Cultural Festival! These fun annual traditions celebrate the diversity in our school with tamale making, performances, cultural tables, and a Mercado with items for sale. Please join us to celebrate our school’s rich diverse community on December, Saturday 3rd from 10:00 am- 1:00 pm.
