Wednesday eFolder – October 16, 2019

Happy Wednesday Thunderbirds!

Fall Carnival is almost here! We can’t wait for THES to be buzzing with costumes, games, food, a dunk tank, cakewalk, photo booth, haunted hallway, raffle and more! The fun runs from 5–8 pm and all are welcome—don’t miss this spooktacular event!

If you have not done so already, please sign–up for your classroom booths on the sheet outside your child’s classroom or online. Also, please donate your grade–level designated food item. Food drop-offs start on Friday at 7:30 am in the teachers’ lounge. Cakes for the “Cake Walk” should also be dropped off in the teachers’ lounge on Friday morning. Please bring toys and stuffed animals to the box outside the office, Monday–Friday this week. These will be prize giveaways for our booths and are greatly appreciated.

Food and Drink Donations requests by grade:
PreK: cookies
Kinder: fruit (cut fruit from the store: apples, grapes, berries, melon)
1st: bottled water
2nd: hot dogs, hotdog/hamburger buns
3rd: shredded cheddar cheese, whole pickles
4th: tortilla chips, water
5th: Fritos (no scoops)

Skip the ticket line!
For the first time ever we will be offering advance ticket sales for Carnival tickets. Buy your tickets early and skip the lines! Purchase online until Wednesday, October 16th and pick them up at the Will Call table.

HELP US KEEP THE HAUNTED HALLWAY OPEN!

We need additional parent/adult volunteers to sign up to work in our Haunted Hallway at Carnival THIS FRIDAY!  Hallway volunteers are encouraged to dress up and join the fun along with our student volunteers. If you are able to help, please sign up online.  If we don’t get enough volunteers, we’ll have to close the hallway early, and that would be a bummer!

THUNDERJOY

Calling all who are able to give more this holiday season! While December may still feel far away, we are already gearing up to ensure that the families who need it most have a wonderful holiday!

Are you able to purchase gifts to surprise and delight deserving Thunderbirds? Or do you know someone who is able and willing (they don’t need to be associated with our school to help)? Here is the form to fill out (or send along to others) Thanks so much for your generosity!

THUNDERBIRD CURBSIDE — POSITIVE SUPPORT SYSTEM

This component of the school-wide discipline plan is to recognize students for meeting school behavioral expectations. Thunderbird Curbside will be used in conjunction with Class Dojo. Students who meet expectations in all areas will have the opportunity to place their orders for the items they would like to purchase from our Thunderbird store once a month. Students and teachers will stop by on their assigned time to pick up their orders.

STORYBOOK CHARACTER DRESS UP DAY ON HALLOWEEN!

THES will host a school-wide Storybook Character Parade on Friday, October 31st. Students are encouraged to dress up as their favorite storybook character. Students who are dressed as a Storybook Character will walk in the parade, and parents are welcome to attend. Students may choose any character from a book they enjoy following the guidelines in this letter. To support students’ feelings of safety and security in our building, violent or frightening costumes are not acceptable. No weapons or dangerous-looking items will be permitted to accompany a costume. Accessories such as wigs, masks, face paint or anything that can be considered distracting are asked to remain at home. Books are a required part of the costume. Here are some examples of acceptable costume choices, and some examples of unacceptable choices. If there is a costume that does not meet the “Acceptable Examples” parents will be called and asked to please come to school and have your child change out of the costume.

Acceptable Examples:
Fancy Nancy
Cinderella, Snow White, etc.
Greg Heffley (the Wimpy Kid)
Ramona Characters
Superman, Spiderman, etc.
Ms. Frizzle
Babymouse

Unacceptable Examples:
Characters from Goosebumps
Vampires
Grim Reaper
Ghosts
with guns or weapons
Horror movie characters
Captain Underpants (inappropriate for school)

Please talk with your child about how he or she would like to participate in this event, and mark your calendars! See your child’s teacher for further information.

DON’T FORGET!

Parents, please complete your background check if you want to be a field trip chaperone! Field trips are starting now and background checks can take up to two weeks.
