Read to Succeed
Six Flags Six Hour reading club logs are due today to classroom teachers! You have until Monday to get them in if you forgot them. Duplicate copies will not be provided by the school, but you can download an extra copy, and find out more program details here. Students who read at least six hours will earn a free ticket to Six Flags this summer!
Gifted & Talented Testing
The window for Kinder-2nd grade Gifted & Talented (GT) testing is now closed. If you have a student that you believe possesses GT traits, please contact Mrs. Underwood so she can add them to the list for testing next year: julie.underwood@austinisd.org
Spring Beautification
Saturday, February 23, 9am–12pm
We need anyone and everyone to come together to work on beautifying our school! Bring your children to help and anyone else (grandparents, relatives, neighbors) who enjoys gardening, carpentry, grounds clean-up, etc. It’s lots of fun and a great way to get to know other families. There will be free breakfast tacos and coffee! Whether you can stay one hour or the entire day, that’s fine by us. Please bring a water bottle, gloves, tools (wheelbarrows are always needed) if you have them.
Young Writers’ Workshop
Tuesday, February 26
Students in every grade will enjoy a special morning at THES focused on the many cool, creative ways writing is important in our lives, our work, and our world. Authors, musicians, poets, and business people volunteer their time to lead these workshops and give Thunderbirds a glimpse into careers and creative pursuits that involve writing. PreK–2nd grades will attend a fun and inspiring assembly on music by Neal Kassanoff of Groundwork Music Project and 3–5th graders will each attend two 50-minute writing workshops! Day–of volunteers needed, please email volunteers@travisheightselementary.com
Spring Pictures
Thursday, February 28
These pictures are more casual than formal fall photos. Order forms will NOT be going home prior to Picture Day. Instead, every student who has their picture taken will receive a package of pictures for parents to preview. If you like what you see, keep the ones you want and send your payment back to school. If you don’t want them, please return them to the office. Please note: there are no retakes for Spring pictures!
Please register for next year ASAP!
Online registration for the 2019–20 school year is now open—please register online now for the fall! Our goal is to have 100% of our families registered by March 30th. It is crucial that everyone register by end of March as this will impact our staffing and funding. We will have the computer lab open on February 18th during parent conferences for parents who need access to a computer or assistance in filling out the forms.
If you would like to opt out of paper fliers, please be sure to check the box on the front of our child’s Wednesday folder. Please help us reduce waste and save money!
