Show your school some love! PTA members will be accepting donation envelopes both inside and outside of the school at drop off and pick up every day. Simply complete the forms sent home and return with a donation, or go online to www.travisheightselementary.com/donate. Also, remember to go to Home Slice Pizza on February 11th — they’re donating 10% of all sales on this day — and Juke Automotive is matching their donation by 100%!
Parent Teacher Conferences
Monday, February 18
All parents MUST have a conference with their child’s teacher. Please contact your teacher to sign up for an appointment! If you have NOT registered your child for the next school year, we will also have computers available for use on BOTH days to help you register! Remember there is no school on this day.
PTA MEETING & 4th/5th Grade Performance
Thursday, February 21 at 6pm
We will have a quick recap of last month’s meeting and discuss upcoming PTA business for March and April. The meeting will be followed by a musical performance from the 4th and 5th-grade students! 5th Grade Parents—come join the 5th Grade teachers at 5:30 before the PTA meeting for a Camp Champions information session. We will be discussing what the students will need to bring, scholarships, and answering questions and concerns.

Please join us for coffee and light breakfast! We will be talking about Restorative Circles—what they are, why we use them, and how parents can use them at home. See you there!
Saturday, February 23, 9am–12pm
After a rough winter, our campus needs some love! Join us to help clean up the campus and get it ready for spring. There will be tacos, coffee, and lots of fun!
PTA Rally Day
Monday, February 25
Please show your support! Each legislative session we hear about the need to improve public education, and history shows that following the conclusion of every legislative session, we all express our dissatisfaction with the results, wishing we had done more. By attending Rally Day, we are taking action — letting our PTA voices be heard while decisions are still being made. Attending Rally Day is an investment of your time and resources that Texas students cannot afford for us to overlook. Help us reach 2,000 attendees!

Young Writers’ Workshop
Tuesday, February 26
Students in every grade will enjoy a special morning at THES focused on the many cool, creative ways writing is important in our lives, our work, and our world. Authors, musicians, poets, and business people volunteer their time to lead these workshops and give Thunderbirds a glimpse into careers and creative pursuits that involve writing. PreK–2nd grades will attend a fun and inspiring assembly on music by Neal Kassanoff of Groundwork Music Project and 3–5th graders will each attend two 50-minute writing workshops! Saturday, March 2, 8am–12pm
Save the date and save your stuff! THES PTA is hosting a fundraising rummage sale in our gym. The week prior to the sale you can donate your very gently used clothes, toys, books, and housewares by dropping them off in the office. All families are welcome to shop!

Online registration for the 2019–20 school year is now open—please register online now for the fall! Our goal is to have 100% of our families registered by March 30th. It is crucial that everyone register by end of March as this will impact our staffing and funding. We will have the computer lab open on February 18th during parent conferences for parents who need access to a computer or assistance in filling out the forms.

As we begin the second half of the school year, I want to take a moment to say what a privilege it has been to work alongside the wonderful teachers, parents, and students at THES. Thank you for welcoming me into the community and trusting me to be your principal. Please attend this special training at our school on Monday, April 29th, from 4-5:30PM with Isabel Guerrero of Austin Interfaith. Please RSVP to Colin Clark at firstname.lastname@example.org or Isabel at email@example.com.
Isabel will train us in the tried-and-true organizing principles and practices that our school community has used in years past to win our in-district charter and help families facing displacement.
We will learn how to host "House Meetings," where we identify issues of concern and identify new leaders for our school, as well as how to organize campaigns to win on our issues.
As our school population changes, and as families face a variety of challenges, including housing insecurity, language barriers, and deportation threats, this training is foundational to organizing ourselves for the best outcomes for our children, students, faculty and staff.
