Happy Wednesday Thunderbirds!

We hope you are having a fabulous week! There are so many important events this week…and for the next couple of weeks, so please read on so you can be prepared!

THES Running Club 🏃🏽‍♀️

January 30 — first session!

Austin Youth Fitness is excited to start the Spring session of Running Club at THES. We hope you can join in on some fitness fun on Wednesdays from 3:15–4:14pm.

Project Based Learning (PBL) Showcase

Thursday, February 7, 6–7:30pm

Come see some of the fun projects our students have been working on this year! PBL is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an authentic, engaging, and complex question, problem, or challenge. Learn moreabout PBL and how we modeled the THES curriculum!

Prime Time forms due by Friday!

February 4 — March 29

Please complete the choice sheet that was sent home with your student last week and turn it into the office no later than Friday, January 25. Late applications will not be accepted. Class assignments will be sent home on January 31.

Coffee Chat ☕️

Friday, January 25 @ 8am

Join us in the library for coffee and light breakfast! We will continue our previous discussion about bullying and talk about current and future school safety procedures.

Last Prospective Parent Tour

Tuesday, January 29 @ 8am

Please be a THES advocate and help spread the word about how wonderful the Thunderbird Community is by telling your friends, neighbors, and co-workers about our Prospective Parent Tour. Recruitment is key for keeping our school at capacity and thriving!

PTA Meeting

Wednesday, January 30 @ 6pm

This meeting will be in the cafeteria and is open to all families. We will be discussing campus safety and security, upcoming PTA events, the PTA budget, and fundraising! Childcare will be provided — students will enjoy a movie night and snacks during the meeting.

Dual Language Applications are due by January 31st.

Applications to the Dual Language Program are available on the main AISD website. Students wanting to apply to the THES Dual Language Program must submit a completed application packet and all required documents back to THES no later than the end of business on January 31, 2019. Students who are already in the DL program do not need to reapply—parents just need to register for the next year.

Lower Grade Assembly — 100th Day of School!

Friday, February 1

Parents are welcome to join! Assemblies begin at 7:40 and end at 7:55. Don’t forget to show your Thunderbird pride by wearing your THES t-shirt!

I ❤️ THES Fundraiser

February 8 – 14

This year’s focus will be on Reading Support — funds for our Library, tutoring, software, training, ESL, and classroom resources that help every THES student learn to read at their grade level. Additionally, we hope to increase the school’s supply of quality reading material in multiple languages!

SAVE THE DATE for 🍕 Home Slice Night🍕, Monday, February 11!

Home Slice will donate 10% of dine-in and take out sales to THES PTA.

Volunteer opportunity — Workshop Hospitality Coordinator

With the upcoming Young Writers’ and STEAM Workshops right around the corner, we have a fun role to fill! The Hospitality Coordinator provides hospitality and food for these much-loved workshops.     Time: 8:15 am-11:00 am

    Description:

    All PreK4 through 2nd grade families are invited to campus for FFF day. You must check into the office before joining your child’s class. 

    We will also need volunteers to help set up/break down and help run event stations. Volunteers for setup are needed at 7:30am and volunteers for break down would stay until around 11:15am. Any amount of volunteer time is appreciated!
