Wednesday Folder – March 21, 2018

Check out the Proposed Pillar Updates!

The four Pillars are the foundation of our curriculum at THES. The Thunderboard has been busy reviewing their language and updating it to reflect what is happening in the classrooms. Please take a moment to look at what they’ve come up with and to give them your thoughts.

We’re at 31%!

That’s right, 31% of our awesome Thunderbird parents have taken the time to register their students online for next school year! But we know we can do better than that. If you’re not already part of the 31%, please take 15 minutes, grab your Parent Cloud password (or request a new one) and register already! It’s easy- I promise. Our goal is to have 75% of students registered by the end of March. Completing registration early is important as it impacts the amount of funding and teachers we receive. Classrooms who have all students registered by March 30th will receive a special prize! Register at https://my.austinisd.org

ARTISTS Needed for STEAM 2018 at THES!

We are still looking to enlist community and parent volunteers to lead art workshops to 3rd, 4th and 5th graders in our first annual S.T.E.A.M. Day at Travis Heights Elementary (STEAM–Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics is a merger of our Young Scientists and Young Artists workshops) on the morning of Thursday, April 12th.

Artists lead two (of the same) 40 minute workshops in which students do a small hands-on project or collaborative activity that introduces students to some aspect of a field. Some past artists’ workshops include: songwriting, quilting, ceramics, painting, drama, choreography, graphic design, screen printing and animation, to name a few!

The past events have always been very rewarding for both students and the facilitators. So, if you have the time and some creative skills OR if you know someone who does, we would LOVE to hear from you. If you are not sure what you might do, we’d be happy to brainstorm with you.

Please contact either Soo Lee Spaw (sooleespaw @ outlook.com) or Renée Pinchero (pinchero.renee@gmail.com) Thank you!
