In which we acknowledge the continued magnificence of our great community…

A.K.A. Thunderbirds Really Rock!

Cultural Festival was so fun this year and what a great turn out! Let’s give a big appreciation pump to Jeniffer Barrera for organizing the festivities this year! And also to all the families who did an amazing job hosting cultural tables! Thank you to all our performers, McNeil HS Ballet Folklorico, THES Choir, Porter’s Martial Arts, Travis HS Guitar and Mariachi and our very own ukulele playing teachers, Ms. DeJong, Ms. Wakefield, and Ms. Esquivel!

We also need to give a great big Appreciation Pump 💪??💪??💪?? to the parents who helped organize this year’s Tamalada. Appreciation Pump 💪??💪??💪?? to Gabi Rivera, Colin Clark, Catalina Santes, Carmen Clavel, and Maria Mata. Thank you also to our Cafeteria workers Alejandra and Elizabeth who steamed all the tamales for us. And, a huge Appreciation Pump 💪??💪??💪?? to Ms. Robertson who braved the journey to the school on the snow day to rescue the tamales that were stranded in the kitchen so we’d have them to sell on Saturday!

And our eternal gratitude to the student volunteers from St. Edwards who helped with Children’s Activities during the Tamalada on Wednesday. Finally, thank you to our business sponsors who donated ingredients: Guero’s, Polvo’s, El Milagro, and Borrego de Oro and HEB, your continued support of our school is very much appreciated!!

Congratulations Mrs. Freeman (5th grade)!

Learning occurs in the classroom and is extended through field trips! While an important component of our instructional plans, field trips can get expensive. Mrs. Maureen Freeman, a 5th grade teacher at THES applied for the Target Field Trip Grants. Her extra effort and time has paid off! Her proposal was selected as a recipient of a 2018 Target Field Trip Grant in the amount of $700. With these funds our 5th graders will visit The Meadow Center at Texas State University, to see how habitats combine to sustain life and what is the effect humans have on our natural environment.

Twin Day rescheduled (again!)

Ok, ok, it’s really truly going to happen this time. Really! Cross my heart! I know you believed me before but, I mean, really, it snowed! What can I say?

Snow. Austin. Snowday.

But no worries! Dry those tears. Dust off those matching outfits and get them on ’cause we’re going for round 3, or is it 2… (actually it may be round 1 since we are going back to the original date…) well, whatever it is, Twin Day is now rescheduled to this Friday Dec. 15th! Can’t wait to see all the matching outfits!

Happy Winter Break!

As if you need a reminder… our break starts after school this Friday! School resumes on January 3rd.

    Time: 8:00 am-9:00 am

    Description:

    Join us this month for a helpful training on managing strong emotions in our children and implementing peace areas at home by our Travis Heights counselors. You’ll leave with some quick strategies to try at home, raffle items, and a make-and-take project for your child’s very own peace area.

    Thunderbird Thrift Sale

    Time: 8:00 am-12:00 pm

    Location: THES gym

    Description:

    Save the date and save your stuff! The 2nd Annual Thunderbird Thrift will take place in the gym from 8am-noon. This fun event was created last year to present a great way for our community to shop second hand and also help raise money for our school. 

    Please donate GENTLY USED CLOTHES, TOYS, BOOKS, HOUSEWARES, and ELECTRONICS. Ask your friends, neighbors & family if they have donations for the sale – the more inventory we have, the better the sale!

    Shop the sale early, and stick around for BEAUTIFICATION DAY! Just 30 minutes of gardening and clean-up can make a huge difference in how our campus looks and feels for our children.  The whole family is welcome!

    Description:

    This dance raises money for 4th grade to go to the Alamo. Only 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students may attend. No younger siblings or alumni allowed.

    It's My Park Day: Clean up Blunn Creek!

    Time: 9:00 am-12:00 pm

    Description:

    Volunteers are encouraged to meet at Blunn Creek for a neighborhood park cleanup. Austin Parks Foundation will lend waders, grabbers, trash bags, and will also dispose of trash. Click here for more info! Please spread the word and help keep the park behind our school beautiful!
