Wednesday Folder – November 29, 2017

Coffee Chat

Our next Coffee Chat is THIS Friday, at 8am. This month’s topic is Literacy and we will hear from the school’s reading specialist on some of the online programs the school uses to support reading skills.

Tamalada and Cultural Festival are next week!

Plan to join us Wednesday (12/6) from 3-6pm as we gather to make Tamales. All are welcome- no experience required. Come to learn, come to teach, come to have fun with your fellow Thunderbirds. Since we’ll be selling them, we can’t let children help with the Tamales, but we will have some fun activities for them as well. Join us anytime between 3 and 6pm and stay as little or long as you like!

Then be sure to come to the Cultural Festival Saturday (12/9) where you can purchase tamales ($12/dozen). There are still spots available for families to create Cultural Tables Sign up online if you can help. We’ll also have crafts for sale at the Mercado and student and cultural performances for you to enjoy!

If you have questions, please contact: Jennifer Barrera (jenthespy91@yahoo.com) or Colin Clark (sprinklerintherain@gmail.com).

AISD Middle School Fair

Curious about AISD’s options for Middle School? Saturday’s Middle School Fair is a great opportunity to start learning about the diverse programs offered in Middle School. For details: AISD Middle School Fair

Prospective Family Tour next Friday!

If you have any friends or neighbors who are interested in learning more about Travis Heights Elementary, please be sure to invite them to a Prospective Family Tour. Tour dates are listed on our calendar.

Tour Helpers Needed!

One of the things prospective families like best is the chance to talk with current families to get the inside scoop on the school. If you are willing to share your thoughts with new parents, we’d love your help with the Prospective Family Campus Tours. No experience or specific knowledge required- just a willingness to share your story! Please contact volunteers@travisheightselementary.com to learn more about how you can help.

English (ESL) Classes

The AISD REfugee Office is offering free ESL classes for any parents who wish to learn English. These classes happen on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 8-10 a.m. in the portable behind the gym. Interested attendees should stop by the office to sign in (please bring your ID). Please note that childcare is NOT available.
