Hola Thunderbirds!

It’s Crazy Hat Day on Friday!

Grab your funkiest hat (or get out all those art supplies and make one) and wear it to school on Friday! Who will have the craziest hat?

T-shirt Clearance

Last chance for T-shirts is this week before and after school! 2 for $5 while supplies last (Currently we have Youth 2T-S and Adult XL left). New Yard Signs are also available -$10.

We’re Planning Ahead!

It the time of year when we start planning school activities for next year. We are so lucky to have the number of community and enrichment events we do at our school. BUT they only happen through the efforts of some very dedicated volunteers. Won’t you please join us as one of these awesome Thunderbird volunteers? Check out the Volunteer page of our website for all the openings but here are a couple of the ones we need the most! Please contact volunteers @ travisheightselementary . com for more info.

PTA Vice President: PTA executive board elections are in April and we need a Vice President! The job involves supporting the President, helping to keep track of the PTA calendar and supporting PTA event coordinators. Average time commitment- 1 hour/week (sometimes more near events or on board meeting weeks).

Carnival Co-Coordinator: A THES tradition since the 1950s, Fall Carnival is a night filled with games, food, and fun- all while raising money to support our school! Help us keep this awesome tradition alive by volunteering as Carnival Co-Coordinator. Duties include supervising teams of volunteers to organize games/booths, provide publicity, recruit volunteers, solicit donations and arrange for logistics at the event. We have one co-coordinator identified but need to find another to make next year’s Carnival happen! Time Commitment: 1-2 hours/week in Sept/Oct, (more the week of the event).

Tamalada Coordinator/Co-Coordinator: The Tamalada is a beloved THES tradition and a celebration of our community’s diversity. The Coordinator(s) are responsible for working with volunteers to solicit donations, organize volunteers, and handle logistics. Please consider lending your talents to make this community building event a success! Time Commitment: 1-2 hours/week in Oct/Nov (more the week of the event).

T-shirt Sales Coordinator: Do you enjoy styling in your Thunderbird gear? Wish you had more? You can make it happen! The T-shirt sales coordinator organizes volunteers to sell T-shirts and other merchandise, tracks inventory, and publicizes and arranges logistics for sales. Time Commitment:1 hour/week to prepare for sales (more during sales) primarily in August/September.

Hospitality Coordinator: Our Young Writers’, Artists’ and Scientist Workshops are amazing opportunities for our students to see these careers in action. The presenters are all volunteers and we like to show them some Thunderbird love as a thank you for donating their time. The Hospitality Coordinator organizes volunteers to provide hospitality and food for the Workshops. Time Commitment: 1 hour/week in weeks prior to the events, (more the day before and day of event).

Do you know any Artists?

We are looking for artists who can lead hands-on art sessions for groups of 3rd-5th graders at our Young Artist’s Workshop May 23rd. If you, or someone you know might be interested, please contact YAW coordinator, Soo Spaw at sooleespaw @ outlook . com.

    Join us this month for a helpful training on managing strong emotions in our children and implementing peace areas at home by our Travis Heights counselors. You’ll leave with some quick strategies to try at home, raffle items, and a make-and-take project for your child’s very own peace area.

    Thunderbird Thrift Sale

    Time: 8:00 am-12:00 pm

    Location: THES gym


    Save the date and save your stuff! The 2nd Annual Thunderbird Thrift will take place in the gym from 8am-noon. This fun event was created last year to present a great way for our community to shop second hand and also help raise money for our school. 

    Please donate GENTLY USED CLOTHES, TOYS, BOOKS, HOUSEWARES, and ELECTRONICS. Ask your friends, neighbors & family if they have donations for the sale – the more inventory we have, the better the sale!

    Shop the sale early, and stick around for BEAUTIFICATION DAY! Just 30 minutes of gardening and clean-up can make a huge difference in how our campus looks and feels for our children.  The whole family is welcome!

    Per PTA bylaws, only PTA Executive Board Members may attend.

    3rd-5th Shamrock Dance

    Time: 4:00 pm-6:00 pm


    This dance raises money for 4th grade to go to the Alamo. Only 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students may attend. No younger siblings or alumni allowed.
