Wednesday Folder – April 27, 2016

Hola Thunderbirds!

It’s Cinco Tres De Mayo Time!

Come eat and drink and celebrate our awesome 2015/2016 school year with us at our 6th Annual Year End Celebration! Our theme is Cinco De Mayo but don’t let that confuse you – because it is on Tuesday May 3rd, 5:30p.m.-8:00p.m.

Head to the Live Oak Garden at Guero’s Taco Bar for live music from the THES School Choir, THES Ballet Folklórico and music by Scott George and the Other Guy.

There is a suggested donation of $5 but if this is an issue for you please don’t let it stop you from coming to celebrate with us. All are welcome!

All proceeds from this event go to funding Camp Champions trip for the 5th graders. Be sure to give generously online or at the event, if you can, even if you don’t have rising 5th graders this year – because you will have them some year and this event will help fund your class trip too!

Boy Scouts for THES Students!

The Girl Scouts have been back and active at THES for a couple years now.

A quick shout out to our intrepid Girl Scout Leaders Alicia Lyn Kasprzak, Carmelita Morales, Carmen Clavel and Susana Rodriguez! Appreciation Pump! Pump! Pump! Pump!

However, we have not been able to get a Boy Scout pack up and running yet. But weep no more my friends because Cub Scout Pack 33 at St. Ignatius has spaces for potential Thunderbird Scouts! They already have multiple fun summer adventures planned, one of which, is an overnight trip to the San Antonio Zoo – Yes, sleeping at the zoo! How awesome is that?

All 1st-5th grade boys are eligible. For more information check out the flier below.

2! 4! 6! 8! Who do we appreciate?

Teachers! Teachers! Yay!!!

Next week is Teachers Appreciation Week. As of this writing, I have no fliers (the scanner at school is broken again) and thus no information to dispense on the events of the week. However, do not let that stop you from showing how much you love and appreciate all the hard work our amazing teachers are doing for us. They have tough jobs, let’s make sure they aren’t thankless!

Hug a teacher… or maybe greet them in a more non-space-invasive-yet-thoroughly-friendly-and-appreciative-way next week and let them know you care!

[Edit: Teacher Appreciation File now added below!]

This is the last week of Prime Time

Need I say more?

Poem in your Pocket is tomorrow

Encourage your child, who may be handy with words,
To take pen to paper, and not be deterred,
to write down ideas… both real and absurd,
and, perhaps, describe a certain red thunderbird.

Ok, that was pretty bad – but you get the idea – anyone can write a poem! Don’t be afraid, share yours tomorrow!

Calling all Artists!

Artists, Musicians and Performers needed for the 3rd Annual Young Artists Workshop at Travis Heights Elementary School to be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2016.

Artists come to share their creative talent to enthusiastic students for the morning in a workshop setting. Afterwards, they are treated with a delicious catered lunch, a giant appreciation pump at assembly and feel-good nirvana that will carry for the rest of his/her life! This is a wonderful opportunity for artists to give back to the community and quite possibly inspire the birth of future artists!

Interested? Contact Soo Spaw or Renee Pinchero for more information.

Volunteer Corner

PTA Fundraising Chair
One of the PTA roles is to support the innovative educational programs at Travis Heights. The stronger our fundraising efforts are, the more support we can give. We are looking for a volunteer to lead our fundraising team. It will be an exciting year as we look for creative ways to ensure the future of our Blended Learning/Technology program.

Carnival Co-Coordinator
A THES tradition since the 1950s, Fall Carnival is a night filled with games, food, and fun, all while raising money to support our school! Help us keep this awesome tradition alive by volunteering as Carnival Co-Coordinator. Duties include supervising teams of volunteers to organize games/booths, provide publicity, recruit volunteers and arrange for logistics at the event.
