Special Announcement: Early Out Fri. March 11

Dear Travis Heights Elementary Families,

The safety of all our students is our top priority. With that in mind, we want to let you know that we will release all Travis Heights students at 12:30 p.m. this Friday, March 11. This includes ALL afterschool programs and child care at our campus. None will be open after 12:30 p.m.

Portions of the annual SXSW festival are already underway. In addition to the traffic generated by attendees, President Obama will also deliver the keynote address to wrap up SXSW Interactive. His address is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. at The Long Center, 701 W. Riverside Drive.

The city of Austin anticipates that this visit will result in an increase in traffic on roadways and transportation infrastructure. The visit will also include multiple, temporary closures of several roads. These closures will have a significant effect on traffic throughout the entire day on Friday.

We expect the effect to be the greatest at the following schools:
Ann Richards School, Austin and LASA high schools
Fulmore, Kealing and O. Henry middle schools
Barton Hills, Becker, Dawson, Galindo, Pease, Mathews, Travis Heights and Zilker elementary schools
Rosedale School
Clifton Career Development Center

The early release applies to the listed schools only. Classes and transportation will continue as scheduled at all other campuses. However, if families pick up their students early from other campuses, it will be counted as an excused absence. Please understand that Friday’s traffic may affect our bus routes, potentially delaying any student who rides an AISD bus.

As always, we appreciate your support of Travis Heights Elementary. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call me at 512-414-3480. Have a safe and restful Spring Break!

Sincerely,

Lisa Robertson
Principal
Travis Heights Elementary
