Greetings Thunderbirds! E-folder 08/11/2021

Happy Wednesday Thunderbirds!

Our regular e-folders will start soon, but we wanted to get the news out about a few things as you prepare for  school to start next week. We are so excited to be welcoming you back to school again and can’t wait to see your faces!

Save the date!

Come out and meet your new teacher on Monday, August 16th, between 1:30-3:30 pm.  Counter to what was shared earlier, you can drop off school supplies then, too.  You can find the school supply lists here:  https://www.travisheightselementary.com/school-supplies/ (scroll to the box at the bottom for each grade level’s list).

Principal Update

Principal Navarro and Assistant Principal Barrett held an update session last night.  They shared a comprehensive look at the new school year and procedures in place to make it a safe, fun, in-person learning experience for all our Thunderbirds!

You can see a recording on the Travis Heights Elementary KTHE-TV YouTube Channel.

A Letter from our PTA President

Greetings Thunderbirds.

As Michael Corleone said, “Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!”

One month ago, I was as optimistic as anyone that the 21-22 School Year would be a return to normal and that we could all be roaming the hallowed halls of Travis Heights Elementary once again. Then I started sneezing. No big deal, probably just allergies. After all, I was fully vaxxed. Then I got the phone call from a close friend I had spent time with a few days earlier. “Go get tested”. Thanks to the Delta variant, I was an early Breakthrough case and now we are in water deeper than ever before.

I was encouraged this morning, when I saw that Superintendent Elizalde announced that, like Houston and Dallas, Austin would be requiring masks at the school. This is the right thing to do and I applaud all the administrators that stood up to the foolish mandates set out by our state leadership.

The 21-22 School Year will not a return to normal, but rest assured the Travis Heights Elementary faculty and staff are doing everything possible to keep all our Thunderbirds safe and healthy. Also know that, like last year, THES PTA will be here to support in any way needed. Last year, we funded air purifiers and cleaning supplies. This year we are already supplying new filters for the purifiers and are prepared to do what we can to keep everyone safe.

So, how can you help? Please, take a minute and go to https://www.travisheightselementary.com/join-the-pta/ and join today. While there, please consider making an additional donation to the PTA so that we can fund the many programs we bring for all Thunderbirds. This year, fundraising will look very different than it has in the past and some of our best opportunities may be missed, so every dollar helps.

Stay safe Thunderbirds and I look forward to “seeing” you all soon.
