HAPPY WEDNESDAY THUNDERBIRDS!
It’s our tenth week of distance learning and everyone is doing a FABULOUS JOB!!! Keep it up! We are wrapping up the school year, but the THES staff continues to work on ways to connect with our families and students to provide distance learning opportunities. Our Thunderbird families’ health and safety is always our top priority. We miss everyone SO MUCH! We are here for you – sending virtual hugs!

THES VIRTUAL END OF YEAR AWARD CEREMONIES
Thursday, May 28th

THES will celebrate and honor the amazing work that our Thunderbirds have achieved this school year! Administration, faculty, and staff cordially invite you to watch our virtual award ceremony during the last week of school. We will post links on DoJo, the KTHE-TV YouTube Channel, and through our efolder. We are so proud of our Thunderbirds in grades PreK3-5th!  Please help us recognize their accomplishments and support our Thunderbirds by watching together as a family.

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL/5th GRADE CONTINUATION VIRTUAL DANCE PARTY
May 28, 7-8:30 PM

We had so much fun at our virtual version of the T-Bird Fiesta, we are going to do it again! Our very own DJs Jason and Anais will be hosting a fun dance party online to celebrate our graduating 5th graders and the last day of school! Same plan: We will set up a secure Zoom room where students can dance with each other and chat. The room will be password protected and monitored. Students will be muted, but they can use the text chat function. Last time folks were getting really creative with costumes and lighting—let’s see what great new ideas you can come up with for this party! Please keep an eye on ClassDojo for login information and send song requests ahead of time to: jason.molin+requests@gmail.com

INSTRUCTIONS FOR JOINING VIRTUAL PARTY
You can join the Zoom meeting via any computer, tablet, or phone. If you have not used Zoom before, give yourself 15 minutes ahead of time to get it set up. You must have our meeting link and password to enter the Dance Zoom. This information will only be shared on ClassDojo. Please keep the password private! Do not post on Facebook or other public platforms. You will need to join the Twitch stream separately to hear the music. This is a website that you can access via any browser on a computer, tablet, or phone. Check ClassDojo next week for party links and passwords.

WARNING: To hear the music and participate in the Dance Zoom, you have to run two separate windows or apps at the same time, Zoom and Twitch. This isn’t possible on a Chromebook or tablet (iPad, Fire Tablet). If you use one of these for Zoom, you have to use a secondary device to hear the music. This can be another computer, tablet, or phone.  We recommend you run the Dance Zoom on the larger screen and then log into the Twitch feed on a phone or other connected device. While there is some video to the Twitch stream, it is mostly for the music. LET’S DANCE!

TRACK AND FIELD AT HOME AND INDOORS

The AISD  P.E. Department is planning a virtual field day during the last week of school (May 26-28). It is intended to be for fun and celebration! Ms. Collins will share activities on our THES learning at home website, under the Special Areas PE tab: https://sites.google.com/austinisd.org/thesonline/special-areas/pe?authuser=0

UPDATE AISD GRADING POLICY: PASS OR INCOMPLETE
Please make sure you have updated your email and physical address with Ms. Gio. The district will mail your child’s pass or incomplete status for the end of the year. Under the new policy, all students will receive either a grade of Pass or Incomplete. Teachers will provide feedback on student performance and monitor progress. A record of incomplete will not affect a student’s ability to advance to the next grade or graduate, but rather will identify students who need extra support in the summer or next year. Teachers can monitor progress via phone conversation if the family doesn’t have reliable access to computers or the internet. Watch a video message from Principal Navarro and AP De La Torre

REGISTRATION
All students returning to AISD must register for the upcoming year! The online registration system is available only through the Parent Cloud at my.austinisd.org. Families who haven’t previously created an account will be asked to do so. For parents registering students new to AISD, a Parent Cloud account must be created before you can access the online registration system.
