Wednesday eFolder – May 13, 2020

It’s our ninth week of distance learning and everyone is ROCKING IT!!!  Keep up the AWESOME JOB and THANK YOU for making all of our teachers feel extra special during Teacher Appreciation Week, last week! Travis Heights continues to work on ways to connect with our families and students to provide distance learning opportunities. Our Thunderbird families’ health and safety is always our top priority. We miss everyone SO MUCH! We are sending virtual hugs to everyone. Teamwork makes the Dream Work! Take time to breathe and we will be stronger once we come together again. We are here for you and please know we are working hard every day to support our Thunderbirds. AISD school and office buildings are closed indefinitely. However, school is in session! We encourage you to participate in the virtual learning opportunities provided by your teacher.  We will continue to communicate with you and provide updates.

We will be holding a virtual version of our annual T-Bird Fiesta, the fundraiser and end-of-year party we usually have at Guero’s! We can enjoy queso and tacos, music, and community — all while staying home and social distancing. Please consider supporting a local business that has always been a big supporter of our school by ordering dinner as take-out from Guero’s on May 15. Then, our very own DJs Jason and Anais will be hosting a fun dance party online! We will set up a secure Zoom room where students can dance with each other and chat. The room will be password-protected and monitored. Students will be muted, but they can use the text chat function. The DJ dance party will be from 7-8pm! Please keep an eye on ClassDojo for login information. Please send song requests ahead of time to:

We are also encouraging families who are able to donate to the school for emergency COVID19 relief. All funds received on the day of the party will be directed to the Parent Support Specialist, who will use the funds to support our THES families who are struggling to purchase food and basic necessities right now. Let’s take care of our community! Here is a link to the donations page:

You can join the Zoom meeting via any computer, tablet, or phone. If you have not used Zoom before, give yourself 15 minutes ahead of time to get it set up. You must have our meeting link and password to enter the Dance Zoom. This information will only be shared on ClassDojo. Please keep the password private! Do not post on Facebook or other public platforms. We don’t want any uninvited strangers. The Dance Zoom will allow all partygoers to see each other and to write notes using the chat function (sound muted). You will need to join the Twitch stream separately in order to hear the music. This is a website that you can access via any browser on a computer, tablet, or phone. Again, the link to the Twitch channel will be shared on ClassDojo only.

WARNING: To hear the music and participate in the Dance Zoom, you have to run two separate windows or apps at the same time: Zoom and Twitch. This isn’t possible on a Chromebook or tablet (iPad, Fire Tablet). If you use one of these for Zoom, you have to use a secondary device to hear the music. This can be another computer, tablet, or phone. We recommend you run the Dance Zoom on the larger screen and then log into the Twitch feed on a phone or other connected device. While there is some video to the Twitch stream, it is mostly for the music. Now, LET’S DANCE!

The final PTA meeting of the year will be held virtually on Zoom on May 21 at 6pm. At this important meeting, we will be electing the 2020-2021 officers and we will vote on a proposed budget for the next school year. The election will be held virtually, according to temporary guidelines established by Texas PTA for meetings through June 30th.

All individuals wanting to attend this meeting must register by May 14. This is needed to give PTA time to determine who is eligible to vote before the meeting starts. Here is the link for registration:

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. Please note that only current PTA members may vote. It’s not too late to join! You can become a member via the school’s website:

The deadline for becoming a member in time to vote at the meeting is also May 14.

Slate of Officers Nominated:
President: Merrideth Jiles
1st Vice President: Jonna Ball
2nd Vice President: Talitha Green
Secretary: Delaina Bostick
Treasurer: Ed Hattrup

As always, people may run from the floor. Because the election will be held during a virtual meeting, anyone who wants to run from the floor must notify PTA no later than May 14. You can submit a nomination using this Google Form:

Stay tuned Thunderbird families — THES will celebrate and honor the amazing work our Thunderbirds have achieved this school year. Administration, faculty, and staff cordially invite you to watch our virtual award ceremony during the last week of school. We will post links on DoJo, the KTHE-TV YouTube Channel,  and through our efolder. We are so proud of our Thunderbirds in grades PreK3-5th!  Please help us recognize their accomplishments and support our Thunderbirds by watching together as a family.

The AISD  P.E. Department is planning a virtual field day during the last week of school (May 26-28). It is intended to be for fun and celebration! Ms. Collins will share activities on our THES learning at home website, under the Special Areas PE tab:

All students returning to AISD must register for the upcoming year! The online registration system is available only through the Parent Cloud at Families who haven’t previously created an account will be asked to do so. For parents registering students new to AISD, a Parent Cloud account must be created before you can access the online registration system. Link to all complete details:
