WE’RE THE WORLD.  WE’RE THE FUTURE.

While our goal as educators is to make sure your students are learning the curriculum for the remainder of this year, it is also true that we must take care of one another. As remote learning begins, there will be activities and lesson plans that are available for your student(s) to complete. I ask that you take a careful look at the remote learning plan for Travis Heights. What I also ask is that you do your best and know that learning unveils itself in many different forms and in many different environments. My number one priority for your family at this time is your safety, health, and emotional well being. The THES leadership team, teachers, and staff are here to support you in any way we can.

The teachers, staff and I miss every student terribly. This time can remind us of what is important in our world and we can use it to slow down and appreciate one another. Ptay healthy and safe. Take care of your loved ones and neighbors. We will see you soon and until then, KEEP ON SOARING!

END OF YEAR AWARD CEREMONIES

Thunderbirds ROCK!  So much great work done this year, topped off by amazing flexibility, innovation and commitment during this last 9 weeks.  Look for a detailed schedule of when our special end of year  video award ceremonies will take place for your child’s classroom!

REGISTER FOR THE 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR
All returning students must REGISTER ONLINE for the upcoming school year. If your child is not registered online, they will not be placed in a classroom for the 2020/2021 school year. We are asking all parents to register their students online at https://my.austinisd.org. It is crucial that we have 100% registration complete by the end of March as it will affect our staffing and funding. If you have trouble with the online registration process, please call the AISD Parent Technology Helpline at 512.414.9187 between 7am–5pm, M-F. We have laptops available in the office for parents to use—please ask Ms. Gio or the PSS, Ms. Perez!

GRADING SYSTEM
Our Board of Trustees approved a resolution Monday evening that temporarily updated our policy regarding grading and graduation in response to the ongoing campus closures due to COVID-19 precautions.

Under the new policy, all students will receive either a grade of Pass or Incomplete. Teachers will provide feedback on student performance and monitor progress. A record of incomplete will not affect a student’s ability to advance to the next grade or graduate, but rather will identify students who need extra support in the summer or next year. Teachers can monitor progress via phone or if the family doesn’t have access to computers or the internet.

LEARNING PACKETS FROM AISD

AISD staff will begin mailing packets on Monday, April 27 for Pre-K–eighth grades. Students of families who qualify for free and reduced lunch will automatically receive these mailed packets.  Students of families who do not qualify for free and reduced lunch are also able to receive mailed packets. If your family does not qualify and would like to continue to receive learning packets, please fill out this form to be added to the mailing list.  Please contact your principal if you are unsure about your eligibility for free and reduced lunch.

Parents may request for elementary students not coded as economically disadvantaged to be added to the list to receive packets and can select the language or languages by completing the form at this link: https://bit.ly/3aAP7NC.

TRACK AND FIELD AT HOME AND INDOORS

The AISD  P.E. Department is planning a virtual field day during the last week of school (May 26-28). It is intended to be for fun and celebration! Ms. Collins will share activities on our THES learning at home website, under the Special Areas PE tab: https://sites.google.com/austinisd.org/thesonline/special-areas/pe?authuser=0

KEEP THE LEARNING GOING OVER THE SUMMER

While our pacing may not be the same during the facility shutdown, one benefit is that students can (and should) continue utilizing the online learning opportunities to improve skills. Dreambox, iStation, Learning.com and other software tools are available to your child all summer long.  Need a break from the hot, sunny days or want to make sure screen time is really productive, then allocate time for your child to take advantage of the summer extended learning opportunities.  Be ready when the doors open and have your student a head of the rest!
