YOUNG WRITERS WORKSHOP

Students in every grade will enjoy a special morning focused on the many cool, creative ways writing is important in our lives, our work, and our world. Authors, musicians, poets, businesspeople and more volunteer their time to lead these workshops and give Thunderbirds a glimpse into careers and creative pursuits that involve writing. Join us this month for a helpful training on managing strong emotions in our children and implementing peace areas at home by our Travis Heights counselors. You’ll leave with some quick strategies to try at home, raffle items, and a make and take for your child’s very own peace area.
THUNDERBIRD THRIFT + BEAUTIFICATION DAY

Save the date and save your stuff! The 2nd Annual Thunderbird Thrift will take place in the gym from 8am-noon. This fun event was created last year to present a great way for our community to shop second hand and also help raise money for our school.
Please donate GENTLY USED CLOTHES, TOYS, BOOKS, HOUSEWARES, and ELECTRONICS. Ask your friends, neighbors & family if they have donations for the sale – the more inventory we have, the better the sale!

AISD NEW HEALTH CURRICULUM INFORMATION SESSION
Wednesday, March 11, 5-6pm
You are invited to attend a Parent Orientation night to preview health topics covered under the new Austin ISD Health curriculum. No child care will be available. Austin ISD believes that a valuable element of education is the development of respect for all individuals, regardless of race, color, creed, national origin, age, gender, sexual orientation, disability or other personal attributes. The district is committed to providing all students with a positive learning environment.
We encourage you to review the lesson overviews for each grade level by visiting https://www.austinisd.org/pe-health/health-education/hsr. This is an opportunity to have an advanced look at the important lessons your child will be offered in May.
You will be provided an opportunity to opt-out of any or all of the lessons at this meeting. If you do not want your student to receive one or more of these lessons, you must actively opt-out by using the AISD opt-out letter. This letter is available online at the above link. It will be available in print at the meeting and will be sent home again on March 23rd. The deadline for returning opt-out letters is April 29.
