Principal’s Monthly for February

THES BEATS TO A DIFFERENT DRUM.
Our Thunderbirds participated in a school wide drum circle K-5th.  The specialized educational program focused on encouraging respectful attitudes and developing critical skills for academic and overall life success.

Group drumming and rhythm activities foster positive social behaviors like respect for self and others, responsibility, communication, and cooperation, which are the foundations for healthy relationships. Participants actively listen to those around them, find their own voices, and create music together.

MONTHLY COFFEE CHAT
Join us February 28th at 8:30 for a helpful training on managing strong emotions in our children and implementing peace areas at home by our Travis Heights counselors. You’ll leave with some quick strategies to try at home, raffle items, and a make and take for your child’s very own peace area.

DAYS OF INNOVATION

AISD is a District of Innovation (DOI) which gives all AISD schools some of the benefits that charter schools enjoy, such as setting aside days for additional teacher training, what we call DOI PD Days (you can read more about it here: www.austinisd.org/districtofinnovation).

THES teachers will spend the day adding to their skills with professional development, a discussion about best practices, analyzing student data, Project Based Learning and planning. We look forward to using this learning in the classroom!

NEXT DOI DAY:  Friday, February 14, 2020

100 DAYS CELEBRATION!

This month upper and lower grade assemblies will change weeks.  The first week of February will be for grades PK4-1st as we have a special celebration for the 100th day of school!  Upper grades will have assembly on Thursday, February 13th since there is no school on the 14th. Assemblies are the first two weeks each month from 7:30-7:55.

PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES

Monday, February 17

No school for students this day, but parents are expected for the second Parent Teacher Conferences of the year. If you have not signed up with your child’s teacher yet, please do so!

THES Business Partner Spotlight – Juke Auto

Support from parents and local business partners is critical to providing resources that engage, motivate and inspire our students to be lifelong learners in their community. This week, we’re featuring Juke Auto, owned and operated by THES Parents Jonna and Juke Ball. In addition to being long-time supporters of the school, Juke Auto has pledged to match contributions made on Day 1 (February 10th) of our upcoming I Heart THES fundraising drive!

“At Juke Automotive, we take an enlightened approach to auto repair and life. Yes, we fix cars, and we do it well, but we also truly care about doing right by Austin and providing a clean, honest, friendly place for you to bring your vehicle when it needs service. We do what we do for the love of family and the community. It’s a difference you can feel when you come to our shop.”

To learn more about how you or your local business can support Travis Heights Elementary, visit our Business Partners page or email fundraising@travisheightselementary.com.

A proficiency rating is provided for each domain in one of four levels: beginning, intermediate, advanced, and advanced high. Additionally, a composite rating is provided in one of four levels: beginning, intermediate, advanced, and advanced high.
