Welcome back everyone and Happy New Year! We hope you had a wonderful break.
Lots of events coming up in January – Awards Assemblies, Thunderbird Showcase, Community Potluck – let’s get an awesome 2020 started!

PROSPECTIVE PARENT TOURS–Last two!
Travis Heights Elementary is a proud community-supported In-District Charter School. Our current families are the best way to share great news about our school. We have tours and other events coming up that we would love for you to invite your friends, neighbors, or coworkers to attend and learn more about THES. No RSVP is needed to attend any of these events. Prospective parents should bring a photo ID and are welcome to bring their child.

January 10: assembly at 7:40 am in the gym and tour at 8 am
January 14: tour only at 8 am

Mark your calendars for Fall Awards Assemblies! Join us in the cafeteria as we celebrate and honor your child’s awesome achievements from the Fall semester.

THUNDERBIRD SHOWCASE
January 16th, 6pm
Please join us for our annual Thunderbird Community Showcase as students and teachers highlight the amazing Project Based Learning (PBL) work that has taken place in our Pre K4 through 5th grade classrooms. The Thunderbird Showcase provides students the opportunity to share their learning and demonstrate the processes and products that has taken place throughout the year.

Spread the word and please join us for a very special evening at Travis Heights Elementary. 

COMMUNITY POTLUCK
January 22nd, 5-7pm
Our 2nd Annual Family and Community Potluck will be on January 22nd and 5:00pm in the cafeteria. All parents are invited to bring a food item to share with the THES Community. Do you have a special recipe your family enjoys? Bring some to share with your school community! This potluck is an opportunity for all families to get together and learn more about each other and meet other folks from the neighborhood. There will be a movie playing for the children which will give parents a chance to mingle and meet new friends. Please contact Ms. Dianna Perez with any questions.   

THES SPIRIT NIGHT AT TORCHY’S
Thursday, Jan 30th
Save the Date! Our neighborhood Torchy’s Tacos (1822 S. Congress Avenue) is hosting a Spirit Night supporting Travis Heights Elementary School. Join THES family and friends at the Torchy’s Tacos on South Congress Thursday, January 30th from 4pm – 8pm, and 15% of the evening’s sales will be donated to the school!

DOI DAY
Friday,  February 14, 2020
AISD is a District of Innovation (DOI) which gives all AISD schools some of the benefits that charter schools enjoy, such as setting aside days for additional teacher training, what we call DOI PD Days (you can read more about it here: www.austinisd.org/districtofinnovation).

THES teachers will spend the day adding to their skills with professional development, a discussion about best practices, analyzing student data, Project Based Learning and planning. We look forward to using this learning in the classroom!

Austin ISD has many options for our students who are moving on to Middle School.  You can find out more about those schools and any application processes that may be required by following these links.  If you have information about another AISD Middle School we should add to this list, please email mary.friedman@icloud.com and we’ll get it added!
