It’s a big week at THES! Today, we will be busy after school making tamales for Tamalada. We hope you can join us at 3pm in the cafeteria. Then, you can come back this Saturday for the Cultural Festival and buy those tasty tamales! Also, don’t forget about the Upper Grades’ (3rd-5th) Assembly this Friday in the gym at 7:40am sharp. Following the assembly at 8am will be a prospective parent tour. Tell your friends, tell your neighbors. Help us keep our enrollment up at THES!

Wednesday, December 5, 3–6pm
Get to know other parents and staff while learning how to make tamales in the THES cafeteria. No experience needed. There will also be lots of fun activities for kids!
Saturday, December 8, 10am–noon
We will celebrate the diverse cultures of Travis Heights Elementary with cultural tables, performances by Shaolin-Do Kung Fu, and THES Choir. Get a head start on your holiday shopping at the Mercado featuring jewelry, bows, hand-painted ornaments, purses, and more. Tamales from the Tamalada will be available for $12/doz. while supplies last!
Coats for Kids Distribution Day
Saturday, December 8, 8am–3pm
This annual community event collects and distributes new and gently worn coats to eligible youth of Central Texas. To receive a coat, parents or guardians must show proof of the child’s age with one of the following: government-issued ID cards, birth certificate, CHIP card, school ID with picture, medical/immunization record. You also must show proof of income and can use one of the following to do so: current pay stub, enrollment in free/reduced lunch program, WIC or CHIP card, Medicaid card, MAP card, Lonestar debit card, or social security income card. There will be a free shuttle service from THES every hour starting at 7:30am.

Show your teacher appreciation!
If you’re looking for a way this holiday to show your child’s teacher how much you appreciate all their hard work and dedication, take a look in the Teacher/Staff Appreciation Binder in the office. It has everything from their birth date and hobbies to their favorite color, restaurant, and whether or not they like chocolate. 12 Days of Holiday Fun
The Teacher Appreciation Committee has organized some super fun activities for THES teachers this month! The Gingerbread House decorating competition is well underway, but there are still a few opportunities to show them how much you care. Check out the online signup sheet. Still needed: hot apple cider and candy!
Thank you for helping us maintain safety while also respecting our neighbors. One final piece to address is traffic at dismissal. Please do NOT park in front of the school from 2:00pm-3:15pm. “Front of school” is considered from Wildman Woods all the way down to the big tree by the 4th Grade Building. Parents picking up from the playpad need to park on the street at the SOUTH end of campus by the pool. Parents picking up by car should join the car line at the NORTH end of campus. Please do NOT drive down Rosedale Terrace and be aware of posted signs and cones in the neighborhood. We appreciate your help in keeping our community safe!

Please attend this special training at our school on Monday, April 29th, from 4-5:30PM with Isabel Guerrero of Austin Interfaith. Please RSVP to Colin Clark at email@example.com or Isabel at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Isabel will train us in the tried-and-true organizing principles and practices that our school community has used in years past to win our in-district charter and help families facing displacement.
We will learn how to host "House Meetings," where we identify issues of concern and identify new leaders for our school, as well as how to organize campaigns to win on our issues.
As our school population changes, and as families face a variety of challenges, including housing insecurity, language barriers, and deportation threats, this training is foundational to organizing ourselves for the best outcomes for our children, students, faculty and staff.
