AISD is updating the curriculum for sex ed; recently the Thunderboard weighed in on the changes by taking a survey. I wanted to alert you all that it has become a contentious issue and there are more opportunities to get involved if you want to.
From what I understand, it discusses consent, is backed by science, and is inclusive of our LGBTQ+ students. Another parent I know went to a community input meeting last night and she said that it got pretty ugly. There is an organized resistance to the changes. They were behaving rudely, interrupting speakers, berating district employees, citing lots of legalese and claiming the district was out of compliance with the law.
If you want to get involved:
1.) Take the district survey about the new curriculum–easy to do from the comfort of home! You can access the survey via the parent cloud; only one survey per student is allowed. (Survey info is also in the link below.) The survey closes on November 30.
2.) Attend one of the two remaining parent input meetings. This link shares details about the meetings, which will take place Tuesday and Thursday of this week:
