Wednesday Folder – October 31, 2018

Happy Wednesday and Happy Halloween Thunderbirds!

We hope everyone is feeling nice and comfy in their pajamas today. Be safe out there tonight on your trick–or–treating adventures…and don’t eat too much candy!

We are rolling into the extra busy season, so read up on all the juicy details.

Thunderbird Thanksgiving–tickets on sale now!

Thursday, November 15

We invite you to join your student for a Thanksgiving turkey lunch at school! Tickets are required to eat the school provided lunch with your child and will be on sale in the lobby before school October 29 through November 6 (cash only). Tickets are $4 for visitors (you only need to purchase a ticket if you plan on eating the lunch provided by the cafeteria).

Lunchtimes will be slightly different on November 15 so please check with your child’s teacher for their revised time. As this is the busiest lunch time of the year, please arrive early to find parking and check in at the office for a visitor’s badge (you MUST bring your ID if you’ve never checked in before).

Don’t forget picture retake day is tomorrow.

Thursday, November 1

If your child was absent on September 27 or you are unhappy with your child’s photos, you will have the opportunity for a retake. Please send picture money and order forms/returned picture packages on this day. Extra order forms are in the front office. WE CANNOT ACCEPT LATE ORDERS.

Thunderbird Party to benefit Project Based Learning (PBL)

Saturday, November 10, 6:30–9:30pm
1500 Betty Jo Drive, Austin, TX 78704

Please join Travis Heights Elementary friends, alumni, and neighbors for a cocktail party to benefit PBL at THES! Adults only, delish food + drinks. Tickets are $50/person and a Thunderbird Friends Sponsorship is $500 (includes four tickets and a special gift). Tickets/Sponsorships are now on sale through November 7 at www.travisheightselementary.com/thunderbirdparty

or email fundraising@travisheightselementary.com for more info.

PBL is a teaching method in which students learn by working for an extended period of time to research and respond to a real–world, engaging, and complex question, problem, or challenge. Teachers often have to pay for project supplies out of their own pockets or parents are asked to help contribute what they can so that students can work together and build their projects. The teachers and students appreciate your tax-deductible support of the Thunderbird Party!

Thank you to hosts Regan Ellmer & JoAnn Dalrymple and to the THES PTA. Sponsors include Tequila 512 and Fall Creek Vineyards.

Operation Thunderjoy

Apply by November 16

For the third year in a row, Operation Thunderjoy is on a mission to provide a joyful holiday season to our neediest Thunderbird families. Inspired by organizations like Blue Santa and the Angel Tree, Project Thunderjoy is the brainchild of one of our students who wanted to make sure her classmates had a holiday season as happy as her own. Thanks to the generosity of our village, we’ve been able to help at least 30 families annually. This year, we plan to help 50 families and we need YOU to help make it happen!

We need families and community members to “adopt” a family in need and provide gifts of toys, clothing, and food. If you are interested in sponsoring a family, please contact Lauren Davis (lauren.davis@gmail.com).

Families in need are encouraged to apply with our PSS, Dianna Perez (512-841-0855 or adrianna.perez@austinisd.org). The deadline to apply is November 16.
