Happy Wednesday &  happy Prime Time start week, Thunderbirds!

We hope you enjoyed your long weekend! Last Friday THES teachers participated in their first District of Innovation Professional Development Day. They spent the day adding to their skills with a writing workshop, a discussion about special education best practices, analyzing student data, and planning. We look forward to using this learning in the classroom!

AISD is a District of Innovation which gives all AISD schools some of the benefits that charter schools enjoy, such as setting aside days for additional teacher training, what we call DOI PD Days. Wednesday, October 10, 6–7pm, THES Library

Everyone is welcome to attend whether you are a member or not. Get updates on membership, advocacy, fundraising, teacher appreciation, Fall Carnival, and the PTA budget. We will also vote on an important new budget item for a very exciting reading program. Children are welcome!

Fall Carnival

Friday, October 19

Fall Carnival is right around the corner and we need everyone’s help in making this a fun and memorable experience for our students. Parent volunteers are essential, and there are still a lot of slots to fill—please sign up today! We are also accepting gently–used toys and stuffed animals to recycle as prizes. Toy drop off is in front of the office, and food donations can be dropped off in the teacher’s lounge the morning of the carnival.

Haunted Hallway

It is a THES tradition for 5th-grade students and parents to run the Haunted Hallway at the Fall Carnival. This is a lot of fun for the kids but is also a BIG project! We will need help with set-up, clean-up, and monitoring the Haunted Hallway. Ms. Isoline will have a separate sign up for the kids who want to work the hallway. Parents can sign up online, or by filling out the form in this week’s Wednesday folder.

SoCo Pumpkin Patch

October 13–31 (or until they sell out)

Austin Energy Family Resource Fair

Saturday, October 20, 11:30 am to 4 pm
Travis High School, 1211 E. Oltorf St.

Austin Energy will have local vendors providing information about social services in our community along with on-site health screenings. Bring your resume and learn about local job opportunities. Also, discover ways to lower your monthly utility bill through the Customer Assistance Program. Free food, prizes, and activities for the kids. More info online.

This time of year brings lots of rain, flooding, and tornadoes. Stay on top of emergency warnings by signing up for emergency alerts with Warn Central Texas.     Please attend this special training at our school on Monday, April 29th, from 4-5:30PM with Isabel Guerrero of Austin Interfaith. Please RSVP to Colin Clark at or Isabel at

    Isabel will train us in the tried-and-true organizing principles and practices that our school community has used in years past to win our in-district charter and help families facing displacement.

    We will learn how to host "House Meetings," where we identify issues of concern and identify new leaders for our school, as well as how to organize campaigns to win on our issues.

    As our school population changes, and as families face a variety of challenges, including housing insecurity, language barriers, and deportation threats, this training is foundational to organizing ourselves for the best outcomes for our children, students, faculty and staff.
