We hope you enjoyed your extra day off this week! There is a lot of rain in the forecast, but that isn’t going to get in the way of some school fun this week. Don’t forget we have Back to School night this Thursday and our first assembly of the year this Friday, for 3rd–5th graders.
Back to School Night Reminder
Thursday, September 6, 2018 from 5–8pm (PK 4:30–5:15pm)
We will kick off the evening at 5pm with a Pizza Party in the cafeteria! Please bring a side to share with your fellow Thunderbirds. Please read the flyer below for a full schedule of the evening’s activities.
We still need VOLUNTEERS to help serve food + clean up. Please sign up online!
Childcare will be provided for school–aged children from 5:45–8:00pm. Younger siblings may accompany parents as needed.
First Assemblies of the Year
Our Friday assemblies are a fun way for our students to celebrate Thunderbird pride. Upper Grades (3rd–5th) is on the first Friday of the month and Lower Grades (K–2nd) are on the second Friday of the month. In the spring semester, 2nd grade moves up to Upper Grade Assemblies and PK joins Lower Grade Assemblies. Parents are welcome to join. Meet in the gym at 7:35 rockin’ your Thunderbird shirt!

Back to School Night + assembly mornings are great opportunities to get your Thunderbird gear for the new school year. The PTA will be selling merchandise from 5–6pm in the front lobby during Back to School Night. They will also set up right before Friday assemblies at 7:15am so you can get in the spirit!
PTA Membership Drive
Next week is PTA Membership Drive Week (September 10th–14th). Representatives will be set up in the lobby to answer questions and welcome new parents who are interested in being making THES the best it can be! If you are not able to sign up in person, we have a handy dandy online form you can fill out at your convenience.

Calling all Thunderbird Volunteers!
All volunteers (including field trip chaperones) must submit a background check through Austin Partners in Education each year. Please see the volunteer page of our website for more details on completing background checks. Volunteers must complete an AISD Confidentiality Agreement. Pick one up from your child’s teacher or in the office. We would love all volunteers to complete a volunteer form so we can update everyone’s interests and only email you about areas you are interested in. Use the form in this week’s Wednesday folder, or complete it online.

THES Restaurant Benefit Day—Monday, September 17, 2018
Eat delicious Vietnamese food and support THES. Pho Please will generously donate 20% of all sales on this day to help fund our school initiatives—takeout included! Hours of operation will be 11am–10pm and they are located at 1920 E. Riverside Dr.

School Hours, Bells, and Doors
Our school hours are 7:40–3:00 for Kinder–5th grade, and 7:40–2:15 for PK.
The front doors open at 7:10. Classrooms open at 7:35. We have adjusted the first bell to ring at 7:35. If you hear the bell, you have five minutes to get to class on time!
Before 7:35, K-5 students will go to the gym to wait for their teacher to pick them up and PK students go to the cafeteria.
Please thoroughly read our attendance policy in the efolder pdf to familiarize yourself on important policies such as early pick up, absences, and tardies.

Time: 3:30 pm-5:30 pm
Annual Back-to-School Ice Cream Social: Find classroom assignments and meet your teacher at this annual event. Come by any time after 3:30 and stroll through your classroom. The cafeteria will have information about the school available and ice cream/non-allergen icy pops available to cool off from the heat. Please plan on stopping by the cafeteria with your child.
The social is also a great time to bring school supplies to your classroom too! School supplies can be placed in a bag with your child’s name on it. Please do not place your child’s name on individual items/school supplies within the bag. If you cannot make the social, school supplies can be brought in the first week of school. Questions about supplies can also be posed to teachers at the social or during the first week of school as well, and purchased thereafter.
