It is so great to see all your familiar faces and welcome to all the new families this year! ! I hope y’all had a fantastic summer with lots of sunshine and swimming! Hope everyone is getting settled into the new school year schedule and getting used to the early mornings again!
If you have not seen one of these before, this is our first Wednesday eFolder of the year. If you are subscribed to these, a link to the post will show up automatically in your email inbox every Wednesday. (You can subscribe in the footer of any page on the website. And you can also subscribe to your grade level blogs and the student blog too!) These posts will give the most recent information about the goings on in the school and you can check out the online calendar (and subscribe to it) to keep on top of all the events at THES.
The website and the calendar are the front line in our digital communication but we do have a facebook page too that you can like. We are looking for a volunteer(s) to be our social media guru(s). It’s a fun job that you can do on your own time and from home – and it gives you an excuse to spend time on social media! Send an email to email@example.com if you are interested!
Important News: School Schedule and Calendar Changes
Our calendar this year is changing due to the Travis Vertical Team Innovation Plan. The Travis Vertical Team is made up of schools within our local area and includes Fulmore MS and Travis HS among others. In the Innovation Plan, our school day will begin at 7:40 and end at 3:00 p.m. In addition, we have six planning days for teacher development to support student learning.
The following dates will be student holidays: Sep 29, Nov 3, Dec 18-19, Feb 2, and April 13.
Creative Action Club & Extend-A-Care will offer programs for these days and information can be found on their websites.
Be sure to check out the attached Parent Newsletter for other important dates and announcements.
All new volunteers are encouraged to attend a Volunteer Orientation.

Returning volunteers, the volunteer requirements have changed! See the flyer for details. Training is no longer required for volunteers but those wishing to work in the classroom or chaperone field trips must submit a background check online and complete paperwork with your child’s teacher.
Change to Friday Assembly Schedule
This year our Friday Assembly schedule has changed! There will be only one Upper Grade and one Lower Grade Assembly for each month.
The First Upper Grade Assembly (3rd-5th) will be next Friday, September 1st
The First Lower Grade Assembly (K-2nd) will be September 8th. (PK will join the assemblies in January).

For all our new and returning Thunderbird Families, here’s a reminder of how assemblies work. Instead of heading to class on your assembly day, drop your child off in the gym. Parents are always welcome and encouraged to join us for assembly – it’s a lot of fun! You will witness true Thunderbird spirit as the children hear morning announcements, receive acknowledgments for behavior that ROCKS (Responsible, Organized, Considerate, Kind, & Scholarly), compete for the Spirit Stick, and sing the school song with the Thunderband!
Lunches with Students Begins September 13th
Did you know that you can have lunch with your child every Wednesday and Friday? It’s true and has been a respected tradition at THES for a few years now. However, our teachers and staff need some time to help students get adjusted to the cafeteria procedures so no lunchtime visits until September 13th, please!
