Letter about our eventful day

Dear THES Community,

Today was eventful yet uneventful thanks to the weather conditions. I wanted to inform you all that we did have an evacuation drill, formerly known as a tornado drill, today for about 20 minutes. The National Weather Service had issued a tornado warning for our area. AISD strongly encouraged all students be in their assigned place for this weather type. Our portables were brought in and our classes moved to their safe zone.

I was so very proud of our staff, students, and parents who were on hand. Everyone was calm and safe. As we waited in the halls I was impressed with the manner in which our staff worked with our students as well as the attentiveness of our students.

We allowed everyone to return to classes at 10:00 except those in the portables. They remained in an alternate location until after lunch. We monitored our creek and had AISD police come to inspect that area as well as other flood areas.

Today was successful thanks to the professionalism of our staff and the cooperative and brave behavior of our students. In future events, please know that we will send out a blast to keep you informed of any emergency on our campus. We are proud of our Thunderbird community and hope everyone has a safe weekend.
