Change to Length of School Day & Additional Student Holidays
Austin ISD just approved the Travis Vertical Team’s (Becker, Dawson, Houston, Linder, Rodriguez, Travis Heights, Uphaus and Widen Elementary Schools; Mendez and Fulmore Middle School; Travis High School), application for an exemption regarding length of the school day through its District of Innovation designation by the Texas Education Agency. The plan changes the Travis Vertical Team’s bell schedule to increase the length of the school day by 8 minutes. As a result, the accumulated minutes would provide teachers with additional professional development days. These days will be student school holidays in addition to those that exist on the AISD calendar.
New Bell Schedule for the Travis Vertical Team Elementary Schools
- Pre-Kindergarten: 7:40 a.m.-2:15 p.m.
- Kindergarten-5th Grade: 7:40 am-3:00 pm
This begins our school day 5 minutes earlier and ending 3 minutes later than our previous schedule (7:45 am-2:57 pm).
Breakfast will begin at 7:10 a.m.-7:40 a.m. until September 11, 2017 when we will begin Breakfast in the Classroom. Then students will eat in their rooms from 7:40 – 8:00 a.m. Breakfast will be available for all students at no cost.
After school programs will adjust their schedules accordingly.
