Tech Crew

Lights, camera, action! The new tech crew has arrived! Every year at our school we welcome a new bunch of fifth graders to the esteemed Tech Crew. On the Tech Crew we have lots of job options to choose from. Here’s an example of a few of them: stage manager, floor manager, lights, dmx, best boy, main audio, camera, directors assistant, and voice. Our director, Mr. Hawes, is also the computer lab teacher. He teaches the new students the ways of the stage.

This year, the Tech Crew is made of 12 amazing fifth graders; Sabine, Isabelle, Lilah, Vi, Brandon, William, Nicholas, Tamarien, Mily, Lily, Robert, and Ashley. These students work hard to make sure our assembly’s run smoothly and beautiful. On Wednesdays, the tech crew meets to discuss their game plan and practices the show. (The T.H.E.S band practices at the end of the day.) On Fridays, the assemblies happen!.

To any fourth graders or future fourth graders out there, join the tech crew. It’s a blast and you will get lots of new experiences to use in the future!

Ice cream social

   Ice Cream Social

At the ice cream social you do three things: Find out your teacher, meet your teacher, and get Ice cream or a popsicle.

  1. Find out your teacher

When you walk into the building there is a bulletin board with every class on it. Find your grade and look for your name, then move to the next step.

  1. Meet your teacher

Walk to your new classroom to meet the teacher and drop of the school supplies. Usually you sign a sheet that says you’re a walker, car rider, bus rider, or you’re in after school care. The teacher will give you a ticket for ice cream.

  1.  Get your Ice cream

Next, you leave the classroom and make your way to the cafeteria.  When you walk in you will see stands of people giving out fliers and information.  As you walk to the back of the cafeteria you see two lines for people to get ice cream (gluten free and non-gluten free). There is someone to collect your ticket and give you ice cream.

Butterflies

by Goldenmonkey and Fuzzylobster

We learned that 1st grade was learning through a project involving butterflies.  Here’s what we found out.

How does camouflage work ?
Camouflage is two different things hide from predators and hunt for prey.

What did you learn?
We interviewed a student named Penelope. She told us about the life cycle of a butterfly (and the stages of its life cycle). First is the little tiny egg. Next the egg hatches into a caterpillar. It eats all the leaves around him or her, then forms a chrysalis. After about four weeks, the butterfly emerges from the chrysalis. Then there is a beautiful butterfly. The butterfly finds a mate, then has eggs, and the life cycle starts again. Finally, and sadly, the butterfly dies.
