Carlos Cuellar

About Me:

Mr. Cuellar's parents were both teachers who raised him loving the good things of life: food, music, reading, travelling, and of course, learning! He has lived many places, including: El Paso, San Antonio, Alaska, Seattle, Columbus (Ohio), and of course, Austin. He began teaching third grade in El Paso. In 2007 he moved to Austin and began teaching here. He taught third grade for seven years and fifth grade since then. Mr. Cuellar loves the precept from Wonder, "When given the choice between being right and being kind, choose kind." His high school mascot was a Thunderbird and he is very excited to be a Thunderbird again!

Ambria Boyd

My Email:

Ambria.Boyd@austinisd.org

About Me:

Originally from Alexandria, LA, Ms. Boyd has been teaching since she graduated from Huston-Tillotson University in 2011. Since coming to Austin in 2002, she loves to explore new restaurants and try new foods with her friends. Ms. Boyd believes that change is good and builds strength. Her personal philosophy is 'just be nice, or go home' and she encourages her students to learn at their own pace, in their own unique way. Everyday offers a fresh start and its ok to make mistakes! Ms. Boyd is excited about being a part of the Thunderbird team and can’t wait to meet her students.

Jennifer Byrd

My Email:

jennifer.byrd@austinisd.org

About Me:

Ms. Byrd has been teaching for more than 10 years and started at THES in 2014. One of her favorite things about teaching is figuring out what a student needs to be successful and she loves that THES is focusing on project based learning – it really brings out the creativity and critical thinking in her students! Her favorite color is red, and she loves that it’s one of our school colors. She received her education at Cal State Northridge and the University of Texas at Austin.

Maureen Freeman

My Email:

maureen.freeman@austinisd.org

About Me:

Ms. Freeman started at THES 20 years ago as a sub before becoming one of our full time faculty members and has been here ever since! She adores her students and enjoys hearing stories about their lives and places they would love to visit. She loves being able to spark an interest in other cultures and countries, and her favorite thing about our program here at THES is the creativity it inspires. For Ms. Freeman, learning should be fun and engaging. She’s traveled all over the world including Egypt, Austria, Paris, London, Loch Ness, Australia, and South America. She is an alumnus of Texas State University, and when she was younger, she learned how to water ski on trick skis. Her favorite color is blue and she loves pandas!
