Young Writer’s Workshop – Takes place on Tuesday, February 7 in the morning from 8:10:11:00.

Student-Led Conferences – Will take place February 20th. By Friday, February 3, students will bring a sign-up form home where parents can fill out a desired time to come in for the conferences. Parents, make sure to bring your kid for the conference as they will lead the conversation.

February Lesson Outlook

Math – Students will learn about conversions and data analysis.

Questions students should be able to answer from January and ongoing lessons:

  • What’s the new math vocabulary that you learned today?
  • What’s the difference between area and perimeter?
  • What is volume?

Science – Students will learn about fossil fuels, renewable and non-renewable resources, and alternative energy.

Questions students should be able to answer from January and ongoing lessons:

  • What are the different types of fossil fuels?
  • What is renewable and non-renewable energy?
  • What are alternative forms of energy?

Reading/Language Arts – Students will learn about the elements of fiction/non-fiction – working on identifying events in the text that advance the story (Plot), as well as how writers organize text. Also, students are learning new vocabulary everyday. There will be vocabulary assessments every Friday.

Questions students should be able to answer from January and ongoing lessons:

  • What elements are found in a story?
  • What is important to highlight as you fiction texts?
  • What are some reading strategies you can use to help with tests?

Social Studies – Students will learn about why Europeans came to the “New World”, what they brought with them, and what they discovered. Students will also study exploration routes explorers embarked on during the 14th and 15th centuries.

Growth Mindset – Ask the students about what growth mindset is.
