What time is school?
Classes begin at 7:45 am and end at 2:57 pm. (Pre-K ends at 2:00 pm).
Where do I drop off my child?
School opens at 7:10 am. Students eating breakfast should go directly to the cafeteria. Students not eating breakfast should go directly to the gym. Students will be dismissed from the gym and sent to their homerooms at 7:40 am (teachers will escort students). Students/parents must enter through the front door and parents may escort their child to class (or to the gym before 7:40) or they may drop students off in front of the main entrance.
Where do I pick up my child?
Teachers will need to be notified if your child is a “car rider”, “walker”, “bus rider”, or enrolled in “after care” at the school.
Walkers– Walkers are escorted by a teacher to the playpad (under the blue awning, just south of the main entrance). Parents or caregivers meet the children here promptly at 2:57pm.
Car Riders– Car rider parents receive a mirror hanger which is needed to pick up the child. Cars line up along Alameda for pickup. K/1 students will be on the covered porch near the kinder wing (north end of the school, near the chicken coop). Other grade car riders will be picked up near the fence along Alameda, south of the K/1st pick up area.
Bus Riders: Students riding buses will be escorted to their buses by teachers.
After school care– Check with your program for pick up information.
What about security?
Security is a top priority at Travis Heights Elementary, and we need parents to follow the protocols just as much as the teachers and students. When entering the school, everyone must enter through the front doors and check in the front office. Do not enter through the side doors by the chicken coop. Often when parents are running late, they will ask someone to hold a side door open for them or ask a child that is inside to open the door. PLEASE do not do this. It’s important we set the example for following rules intended for every child’s safety.
If parents plan to stay at school/volunteer or have arrived late and wish to drop off their child, they MUST check in at the office to receive a visitor/volunteer sticker. During the school day, children who need to be outside the classroom (ex: to see the school nurse) ALWAYS travel in pairs. Additionally, there are security cameras at access points to the school and doors require a badge for entry. Always raise any concern you have about security to the main office
How do I pay for my child’s lunch?

Cash– For Prices: www.austinisd.org/nutritionfoodservices/meal-prices
Free/Reduced Lunch– New applications are available from the Cafeteria Manager or school office. For assistance in completing the form, please call 512-414-0251. A new meal benefits application must be submitted each school year for those interested in participating in the free or reduced meal program
Can I eat lunch with my child?
Yes! Starting the third week of school after students have settled into their schedules, students may have visitors for lunch on Wednesdays and Fridays only. Be sure to sign in at the office before meeting your child in the cafeteria.
This is just for the visitor and the child; we ask that no other friends tag along.
What are Friday Assemblies?
Friday Assemblies are an opportunity to celebrate student success and share school spirit, and parents are welcome to attend! Assemblies take place Fridays from 7:35am-7:55am in the gym and alternate between upper grades (3rd through 5th) and lower grades (K-2nd). Pre-K students will join Friday assemblies during the second half of the school year.

Wednesday Folders – These folders will have important weekly communications for parents to read, sign and return. Look out for one in your child’s backpack!
Coffee Chat -This is a monthly forum where parents can communicate directly with the principal. Issues and concerns can be brought to the principal’s attention during this time. These meetings are the last Friday of each month in the Cafeteria.
How can I get involved?
Volunteer- Be a part of Team Thunderbird! Parent volunteers are a key to our children’s success. A variety of volunteer opportunities are available. Information is shared in Wednesday Folders, on the PTA bulletin board near the office, and at travisheightselementary.com.
PTA-The Parent and Teacher Association is an organization dedicated to parents and teachers working together to improve the school. PTA meets the 3rd Thursday most months of the school year to discuss topics of interest and to organize special events (see the school calendar for exact dates). Meetings generally start at 6pm and last an hour. Information about PTA is sent home in Wednesday folders.
CAC/”Thunderboard” -The Campus Advisory Council meets once a month after school (see the school calendar for exact dates). The CAC is a council of parents, faculty, staff and community representatives who stay involved in the planning, budgeting, curriculum, staffing and organization of Travis Heights Elementary. What dates should I mark on my calendar?
Look for a calendar of events in your child’s Wednesday folder. And subscribe to our online calendar so important school dates will automatically appear in your Google or iCal calendars! Go to www.travisheightselementary.com/calendar, scroll down and click on the appropriate red “Subscribe” button. There is also a link for help if you need additional instructions.

Where can I park?
From 7:05-8:00 AM our school side curbs are used as a student drop off. Buses line up for pickup between 2:00-3:05. We ask that you do not park on the curb during those times. Parking is available from 8:00AM -2:00 PM. When parking in front of our school, please don’t block the drive ways of our neighbors. You may use the side streets to park but we ask for you not to park in the school parking lots.
Ice Cream Social
The Friday before school starts will be our annual ice cream social. At this time you can bring your child’s school supplies to the classroom before the first day of the year. We will have PTA info, ice cream, and a fun time for all. See you there!
