Hello Thunderbirds!

Phew! I just got back from Family Fun & Fitness Day and we all had so much fun! There was rope climbing, sack races, hula hoops and pickles for all! (Why pickles? Well, because, pickles!)

Important Community Action Meeting Tonight!

We need your support for our school! Travis Heights PTA and Austin Interfaith are holding a Community Action meeting TONIGHT at 7:15pm at the gym. We will be asking the elected officials from the city council and school board to pledge their support on issues that are impacting our school and neighborhood. Topics to be discussed include: affordable housing in our attendance zone, funding for the school (including Primetime and our Parent Support Specialist), and Alcohol sales near schools. If you care about any of these issues, please plan to attend. Your presence can make a difference! Child Care is available.

Young Artist Workshop is May 25th!

We are so excited to present the 3rd Annual Young Artists’ Workshop on Wednesday, May 25th! Similar to the Young Writers’ Workshop and Young Scientists’ Day, this unique event will give our students the opportunity to experience and learn about the many ways in which art can play an important part of their lives, either as a creative outlet or even possibly as a profession.

Students in 3rd, 4th & 5th grade will attend two creative workshops led by local Austin artists. These students will have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of artistic presentations including drawing, painting, design, ceramics, and more!

How can you help? We need volunteers to assist the artist in their workshops. We are also providing a small coffee breakfast and lunch for the artists and we need volunteers to set up & clean up.

Volunteer Corner

Summer Chicken Crew
We are working on creating a team of volunteers to help care for the THES chickens over the summer. Training will be provided and we are looking for families to take care of the chickens for a week at a time. This will involve coming to the school daily to feed/water, clean the coop and let them roam free for a bit. If you are interested in helping out, please email volunteers@ travisheightselementary.com.

Help Save Fall Carnival
A THES tradition since the 1950s, Fall Carnival is a night filled with games, food, and fun, all while raising money to support our school! Help us keep this awesome tradition alive by volunteering as Carnival Coordinator or Co-Coordinator. Duties include supervising teams of volunteers to organize games/booths, provide publicity, recruit volunteers and arrange for logistics at the event. These teams all need volunteers as well. We’d hate to see this beloved tradition disappear due to lack of leadership- Please Volunteer!
